This is actually tame compared to more MAGA republicans, who are straight up saying genocide sounds cool. It's still edgy enough to position her as being different from the Democrats, who care about things like civilian deaths. So, what's happening here is that she's positioning herself as a Starmer-style rebound-to-the-center candidate if the more far-right wing fails. It seems to be working just as planned, although I personally don't see Trumpism dying any time soon.
