I looked it up and the strangest result appears: camel's nose.

Apparently it's a Victorian era, and Victorian made, idiom about an Arabian idiom of letting just the camel's nose in the tent, which eventually results in the entire camel being under it.

I also first thought of that Chinese proverb, which is literally "get an inch, advance to a foot".
