Is Redbull allowed repair (replace) the floor before the race?

[-] hsr@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 4 months ago

I think you're allowed to repair/swap components as long as they're identical spec. No setup changes, but they should be able to put in a new one.

[-] l_b_i@yiffit.net -1 points 4 months ago

I think that is all at the stewards discretion.

Doesn't read like it to me

40 PRE-SPRINT AND PRE-RACE PARC FERME

40.2 [...] the following work may be carried out:

g) Repair of genuine accident damage, defined as any of the following:

iii) Damage incurred whilst off track limits, which also result in significant loss of lap time or a lap time which is deleted by the Race Director.

sporting regulations (p. 48)

Thanks for the source.
changed during parc ferme
From the document:
Car 01: Floor assembly (without skids and plank)
Floor keel panel

All above parts have been replaced with the approval of the FIA technical delegate following a written request from the team concerned, this being in accordance with Article 40.3 of the 2024 Formula One Sporting Regulations.

Short answer is yes, with identical parts otherwise it's a grid drop or pitlane start depending on what is changed and why.

[-] l_b_i@yiffit.net -1 points 4 months ago

I think that still needs approval of the stewards.

Looks like approval was needed and granted

I don't understand how or why approval would've been needed, unless Red Bull asked just to be safe?

The damage should've been covered under normally allowed repairs during parc ferme rules:

I'll agree g iii could fit. If it was an out lap, or if he went into the pits at the end of the lap, the time wouldn't have been deleted, and although time was lost, was it "significant"?

And 40.3 specifies for repairs not covered in 40.2. So no harm in asking anyway, certainly better than a DQ.

[-] FrostyTrichs@sh.itjust.works 2 points 4 months ago

The day I understand the FiA will be the day I know I've lost it.

You're definitely right that there's no harm in asking compared to a DQ.

[-] GreenEngineering3475@lemmy.world 0 points 4 months ago

That will certainly be breaking parc ferme.

[-] Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 4 months ago

No you can replace a damaged part as long the replacement part is the exact same spec

[-] Microw@lemm.ee 2 points 4 months ago

And apprently they dont have a same-spec floor

[-] Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 4 months ago

Wow max is fucked then

[-] espentan@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

No, they have 3,5 hours to repair it.

After the qualifying session ends on Saturday night, there will be a period of three and a half hours when the team are allowed to inspect, repair, and ensure that the racing cars are prepared for the upcoming race.

No, actually. After the post-qualification inspections, teams can replace damaged parts like-for-like with parts that are undamaged.

[-] Microw@lemm.ee 1 points 4 months ago

RBR does not have an identical floor as far as they have said before the weekend. They only have this one.

[-] lazycouchpotato@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

Horner on F1TV just confirmed they have a replacement.

[-] l_b_i@yiffit.net 1 points 4 months ago

Damage is often allowed to be repaired without breaking parc ferme. I just don't know the limits.
