"female" always sounds slimy to me. There's just something about the word
Yeah, like why you callin' them "females" bud? Wanna be reminded of "males" when you talk about 'em?
The accepted ways for heterosexual men to refer to the opposite sex are: Chicks, babes, birds, broads, dames, girls/gals, lassies/lasses, señora, maidens, and Sheilas*
Edit:
*Only if you're Australian, otherwise it's appropriation

Women is something they'd never say it's always females..
