They were always right. Their point was that they had enough white privilege to not need God. It was simply a shitty point and they never really embraced the full logical endpoint of humanism. They rejected God because they wanted more treats. Not because the church is a midevil government that persists in robbing the poor and emiserating the weak till this day. Being liberals they liked that part.
