Personally, id choose them over plastic ones if not just to save plastic

[-] FiskFisk33@startrek.website 15 points 3 months ago

doesn't metal manufacturing use quite a lot more energy?

[-] Strykker@programming.dev 39 points 3 months ago

But it has the benefit of not breaking down into micro plastics and getting into every part of everyone.

"Honey, I accidently digested our SD card again"

[-] FiskFisk33@startrek.website 3 points 3 months ago

True enough. Though I wonder, as a thought experiment, what would be the actual better option in the long run. Some type of resin maybe?

that's...

I somehow doubt that.

Uranium baseball cups. Not physically possible to throw a baseball hard enough to damage the goods, plus it helps combat the effects of overpopulation.

[-] tromars@feddit.org 2 points 3 months ago

I guess using renewables for the energy needs of metal production would work too

[-] TheObviousSolution@lemm.ee -1 points 3 months ago

Good thing heavy metal toxicity isn't a problem.

[-] Strykker@programming.dev 1 points 3 months ago

Steel or stainless ain't gonna give you metal poisoning

[-] TheObviousSolution@lemm.ee 1 points 3 months ago

Stainless steel leaches nickel and chromium.

[-] Strykker@programming.dev 1 points 3 months ago

Better toss all your cookware then

[-] TheObviousSolution@lemm.ee 0 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I'll toss it when I toss my plastic tupperware. The problem is re-usability, not what it's made out of. SD card gets tossed out, doesn't matter what it is made out of, it's going to pollute.

What a downvote Nancy.

[-] KillingTimeItself@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 months ago

probably, but then i can ingest less micro plastics. Which is probably good.

[-] Ilovethebomb@lemm.ee 3 points 3 months ago

You're not supposed to eat them.

[-] KillingTimeItself@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 3 months ago

i literally cannot help myself.

[-] FiskFisk33@startrek.website 2 points 3 months ago

at least its not a single use product, the packaging it comes in is probably a worse contributor

[-] KillingTimeItself@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 months ago

honestly, this might be true. There are definitely worse things to be made from metal lol

[-] rickyrigatoni@lemm.ee 2 points 3 months ago

But what about ingesting micrometals

[-] KillingTimeItself@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 months ago

do micro metals even exist in substantial capacity? The problem with micro plastics is that they don't break down and decay until like a gazillion years later, so whatever micro plastics are in your kidneys now, will continue to be in them until you die.

[-] 11111one11111@lemmy.world 18 points 3 months ago

Maybe extreme weather conditions for trail cams? That's the only reason I would think about using one but never actually buy one for lol.

People will pay more money for premium.

But yeah environmentally this is a damn good idea. We should make everything out of metal.

[-] Mandy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 months ago

sounds pretty metal
