I have an appointment with a psychiatrist that is probably going to suggest me to try a SRRI meds for seasonal depression and I’m a bit apprehensive to try it because I’m already on adderall for adhd. Does anyone have experience with this combination? I’ve read so far that it’s possible but that the breakdown rate is lower so I’d need to be on smaller dosage.

I will obviously talk with my psychiatrist about my worries but I’d just like to be prepared a bit because my experience with psychiatrists is that they’re really eager to get you on meds but don’t really give a lot of info on them.

I am open to try it because my seasonal depression is debilitating and I feel like I’ve exhausted all other options in trying to ease it without satisfying results (except moving but that’s not possible currently)

I’ve thought about the possibility of just not using the adderall in the winter while I take the ssri because maybe the ssri would alleviate some of the adhd symptoms.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

apologies, as my situation is similar on the face of it but completely different for every single variable you mentioned, but to throw it in:

I was longer-term on SNRIs before an ADHD diagnosis (like absolutely confirmed, i've never passed a test so convincingly lmao) and starting Ritalin gave me a marked improvement to the point that I put off an imminent dosage increase of my desvenlafaxine (because my ADHD symptoms were being addressed).

I'm going to leave it to others who are more experienced with your combination and more versed in the literature, but if you want the anecdotal opinion of a random nerd who will be thinking about this all day: the two-pronged approach helped me immensely personally, and I would assume much more so than a simple increase of one or the other. Antidepressants though are always an inexact science, and I definitely don't mean that in a crank way, but I mean that the prescription is issued to deal with how we feel - and even when we don't know how we feel, no one else can know because there's no blood tests or scans or whatever. So you'll just have to monitor and be honest with yourself and your doctor when thinking about how much it's helped, if anything is making you feel worse, and if the combination is suddenly making you concerned about any symptoms or issues. If it feels wrong, it's wrong.

If it feels wrong, it's wrong.

I would venture to say this is the best advice you can give in terms of treatment for just about any condition. Listen to your body.

Although your variables are indeed different it is reassuring for me to know that the combination of adhd medication and antidepressant can work, so thanks!

also, you want to know something that seems to absolutely fucking crater the effectiveness of Ritalin but there doesn't seem to be much research on the interaction? Diabetes meds.

Dunno if it's the metformin or ozempic (lmao) but fucking hell, i'm feeling like the ritalin hits half as hard these days.

What is Neurodivergence?

It's ADHD, Autism, OCD, schizophrenia, anxiety, depression, bi-polar, aspd, etc etc etc etc

“neurologically atypical patterns of thought or behavior”

So, it’s very broad, if you feel like it describes you then it does as far as we're concerned

Rules

1.) ableist language=post or comment will probably get removed (enforced case by case, some comments will be removed and restored due to complex situations). repeated use of ableist language=banned from comm and possibly site depending on severity. properly tagged posts with CW can use them for the purposes of discussing them

2.) always assume good faith when dealing with a fellow nd comrade especially due to lack of social awareness being a common symptom of neurodivergence

2.5) right to disengage is rigidly enforced. violations will get you purged from the comm. see rule 3 for explanation on appeals

3.) no talking over nd comrades about things you haven't personally experienced as a neurotypical chapo, you will be purged. If you're ND it is absolutely fine to give your own perspective if it conflicts with another's, but do so with empathy and the intention to learn about each other, not prove who's experience is valid. Appeal process is like appealing in user union but you dm the nd comrade you talked over with your appeal (so make it a good one) and then dm the mods with screenshot proof that you resolved it. fake screenies will get you banned from the site, we will confirm with the comrade you dm'd.

3.5) everyone has their own lived experiences, and to invalidate them is to post cringe. comments will be removed on a case by case basis depending on determined level of awareness and faith

4.) Interest Policing will not be tolerated in any form. Support your comrades in their joy!
