When I was a kid, my shiny Venusaur card was stolen by another kid at school and I never got it back. They're both kind of similar stories really.
If it makes you feel better I'll speculate that kid probably didn't keep it in good enough condition to be worth the full $13k a foil venusaur can sell for today.
