Cyber punk is counter cultural. I think in these worlds when the protagonist resists the robot tech it's notable because the majority have mindlessly accepted it.
Ive noticed that the cyberpunk genre is widely misunderstood. That's likely intentional on behalf of corporations who really aren't served best by us fully embracing the cyberpunk attitude against corportations.
Half of people don't even realize there's a genre beyond the A E S T H E T I C and video game
