As the title states I am confused on this matter. The way I see it, the USA has a two party system and in the next few weeks they’re either going to have Trump or Harris as president, come inauguration day. With this in mind doesn’t it make sense to vote for the person least likely to escalate the situation even more.

Giving your vote to an independent or worse not voting at all, just gives more of a chance for Trump to win the election and then who knows what crazy stuff he will allow, or encourage, Israel to get away with.

I really don’t get the logic. As sure nobody wants to vote for a party allowing these heinous crimes to be committed, but given you’re getting one of them shouldn’t you be voting for the one that will be the least horrible of the two.

Please don’t come at me with pro-Israeli rhetoric as this isn’t the post for that, I’m asking about why people would make such choices and I’m not up for debate on the Middle East, on this post, you can DM me for that.

Edit: Bedtime here now so will respond to incoming comments in the morning, love starting the day with an inbox full 😊.

Edit 2: This blew up, it’s a little overwhelming right now but I do intent on replying to everybody that took the time to comment. Just need to get in the right headspace.

I'm sure if Trump wins it will be of great comfort to the millions more Palestinians dying in the genocide that their deaths will be useful to your smug sense of superiority.

[-] TheOubliette@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 month ago

Having a hard line of support for genocide should not be a high bar to clear. Look at yourself in the mirtor and say, "I vote for genociders".

[-] zephr_c@lemm.ee -4 points 1 month ago

See, the difference between me and you is that I care about the people who are still alive, not just the ones who are dead. I'm not okay with letting millions of innocent people die just so I don't have to "support genocide". I'm sure your conscience is more important than their lives though.

[-] rentasonder@lemmygrad.ml 8 points 1 month ago

You explicitly support the continued genocide of Palestinians.

You are a white supremacist.

[-] zephr_c@lemm.ee -5 points 1 month ago

You are explicitly pro more death.

You cannot make me sit idly by and do nothing while innocents die.

[-] TheOubliette@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 month ago

See, the difference between me and you is that I care about the people who are still alive, not just the ones who are dead.

It takes a very special relationship with the truth to read what I said and think, "wow that person only cares about dead people".

[-] zephr_c@lemm.ee -1 points 1 month ago

So why won't you do anything for the people who are still alive, then?

You are, in fact, completely okay with letting millions of innocent people die. I'm sorry you're in denial.

[-] zephr_c@lemm.ee 0 points 1 month ago

If you think your inaction will result in saving the life of a single person you are completely disconnected from reality. I'm sorry you're in denial.

[-] basmati@lemmus.org 7 points 1 month ago

Who's inaction? I'm taking action as are millions. Voting for their genocide is not an action that saves lives.

[-] zephr_c@lemm.ee -1 points 1 month ago

Funny how many people on Lemmy totally claim they're totally taking action without ever having a single one of them actually saying what that action might be. I'm sure you're totally doing lots and not just calling people who disagree with you names on an obscure website though.

[-] basmati@lemmus.org 4 points 1 month ago

Protesting, mutual aid networks, volunteering for charities aiding the Palestinians. I've helped raise two million for unrwa, before Israel and the US started slaughtering them.

Voting for genocide does not help the victims of genocide, current or future.

[-] zephr_c@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

Sure, sure. I totally believe you. All this just happened to happen completely disconnected from anything on Lemmy, but as soon as someone calls you out suddenly you've always been a saint. I totally buy it. Totally.

[-] basmati@lemmus.org 5 points 1 month ago

I'm not a saint, I'm a generic human doing the bare minimum. If you think anything in that previous comment was brag worthy, you're objectively bad at being a human and I'm not sure you can be helped. You're a bad person.

[-] zephr_c@lemm.ee -2 points 1 month ago

Pfft, I'm not the one telling anyone that wanting less people to die is supporting genocide and claiming to have raised two million dollars on the basis of trust me bro.

[-] basmati@lemmus.org 3 points 1 month ago

Yes let me completely dox myself to a random government supporting person that thinks genocide is necessary. That always ends well, fed.

[-] zephr_c@lemm.ee -1 points 1 month ago

Sure, you totally raised millions of dollars for a cause that the government is opposed to, but they totally don't know who you are. Sure, dude. And yeah, harm reduction is totally the same thing as supporting the government. There can be no disagreement. Either you agree with every word I say or you're a fed. Those are the only options.

Man, Lemmy sure is a shithole where leftists go when they know they've failed but want an echo chamber to tell them they're totally right about everything.

[-] basmati@lemmus.org 2 points 1 month ago

There is no lesser evil in genocide.

Period.

Your life, your rights, are not worth genocide, period.

[-] zephr_c@lemm.ee 0 points 1 month ago

Tell that to the people whose lives are on the line.

[-] basmati@lemmus.org 2 points 1 month ago

Hi, that's me. My life is on the line. It is not worth the genocide of an entire people.

If you believe your life is, you need to die. Not calling for violence, before the report. If a person believes they should continue existing by killing other humans, that person needs to die. They cannot be allowed to continue existing. Every time someone like that gains popularity and power, a genocide happens. Every single time. People like that aren't human, they lack empathy which is required for human society to function.

[-] zephr_c@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

Nah, bullshit. Don't lie to me. You aren't this stupid. If Trump wins Rafah will be a crater and violence will be escalating in the West Bank within a month. I'm not willing to watch those people die just to send a message. That's genocide just as surely as anything the Democrats are doing. Those are the lives that matter. Those are the lives I'm talking about. If you can't bring yourself to stop that, you don't actually care about genocide. You just want to be self-righteous.

[-] dessalines@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 month ago
[-] zephr_c@lemm.ee -3 points 1 month ago

Just because it sucks, doesn't mean it isn't true. The simple fact of the matter is that the statements "The Democrats are supporting a genocidal regime in Israel." and "If Trump becomes president Netanyahu will destroy Rafah and expand the violence into the West Bank." are not mutually exclusive statements. Taking a simple quick action to prevent one does not stop me from fighting the other. In fact, doing nothing to stop the worse case is supporting genocide. There will be more genocide if we all do nothing, and I have never seen any leftist actually suggest taking any action here on Lemmy. It's never about doing anything. It's always about what not to do. If that's all you've got, then you've already failed.

[-] rentasonder@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 1 month ago
