For this Special Thursday Cinema Night, 8PM EST, things are getting a little spooky, since it’s Halloween. First up is Antichrist (2009), a psychological horror that asks the viewer, “What if marriage was the real horror?” A dysfunctional couple (Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg) goes to a spooky cabin in the woods in hopes of reviving their passion for each other, and this, of course, is a great plan that does not result in encounters with demons or mental breakdowns. Best known as the movie where bad things happen involving scissors and genitals. We previously watched Lars bon Trier’s Bjork vehicle Dancer in the Dark (2000), but his filmography is otherwise untouched on Hextube, so let’s give this a whirl.

After that is Pulse (2001), a Japanese horror story about ghosts from the internet that start haunting people’s computers, and then the rest of their lives, too. Horror as metaphor for neoliberal capitalism, and so on. Touch Grass: The Movie. Director is Kiyoshi Kurosawa, the same guy who brought us Cure (1997), and Tokyo Sonata (2008), which were both hits on Hextube. This is one of his more popular films.

We’ll start at 8PM EST on Hextube, right here:

Be there, comrades!
