Create flyers with your instance logo on the front, possibly url at the bottom and on the back along with play store and apple store lemmy app links.

Ideally, you'd hand them out or place them at business of which you'd like a certain type of user.

Easiest example. Say (Yea I know lemmy is anti religion just using for example purposes) you're a Christian instance, you'd go to churches and ask if you can leave a stack or pass them out there.

You could do the same at bars, sex shops, or whatever type of audience you're looking for.

Ideally the businesses would give you an ok to do that so you're not soliciting.

Anyone done this?

I wouldn't. But you do you. It would be interesting to hear how well an IRL campaign would work to get users on the Fediverse.
