I have fully transitioned to using Lemmy and Mastodon right when third party apps weren't allowed on Spez's place anymore, so I don't know how it is over there anymore.

What do you use? Are you still switching between the two, essentially dualbooting?

What other social media do you use? How do you feel about Fediverse social media platforms in general?

(I'm sorry if I'm the 100th person to ask this on here...)

Been trying lemmy for a few months, and I have mixed feelings. Not going back to reddit even if hell freezes but if only I could strip the orange turd and the jumping dipshit (and all of us politics) from my feed I’d enjoy it way more. This is most certainly user error, so if anyone has any recommendations I would welcome them. Being on .world is the problem?

The voyager client has filters you could use to try and filter things out.

Like the others have said, use Voyager to filter out the instances and communities you don't want to see.

Ive been using descovery for a while. It works mostly great. I have to learn a bit better how this works as instances and filters go, but I think I got it figured out for the better part

I love the helpful feeling you get from people responses here, not those snarky one liners replies that add nothing (but I’ve done plenty of those on reddit, don’t want to bring that vibe here, although I might have failed already)

I’ll be better, I promise

The Connect app (Android) allows filters by both keywords and URLs; not only do I not see anything with something in the title that I don't want to hear about, but also nothing from certain websites I don't either.

Did someone say "echochamber vides intensifies"? Yeah yeah, my eyeballs, my choice.

I’m using discovery in ios phone mostly. It works nice once you learn how (I’m starting to sound like my old man)

But thanks for the help, you’re in my christmas list now

The instance could be a problem if you scroll through the 'local' feed often and thats where you see a lot of things you don't wish to see. A European or special interest instance might suit your context, (Portuguese?), better.

I spend more time on my 'local' (aussie zone) feed than 'subscribed' or 'all' and its definitely nicer, so a move like this can work.

But you could also optimise your own 'subscriber' feed as another option.

Well thanks I’ll try your suggestions. I tried a portuguese instance but it was really slow going, maybe I should check again. Truth is I haven’t entirely figured how this works and to be truthful staying out of social media as whole has been refreshing. But I find the lack of users and memes from 10 years ago kinda charming, being a decades old reddit user, lemmy holds some of the niceness of reddit in the old years so I’ll stick around. Would mastodon be any better? Have no interest on xitter clones like bluesky

No idea on Mastodon myself. I've heard a couple interviews of the developer, seems like a cool guy. But thats about all i can say.

I's playing round with this instance and community finder the other night, works really well. Might be useful to find a more active community that you'll enjoy.

Mastodon is single developer? 🤔

And thanks for the list, a question I should post on “no stupid questions “ I need to create a new account on every instance I want to explore, right? This is a rabbit hole inside a rabbit hole 😂

[-] Gorgritch_umie_killa@aussie.zone 1 points 4 minutes ago

So, further to mu previous comment, no you shouldn't need to create an account on each instance you want to explore. At best creating an account on the instance might make navigability better.

Mastodon is single developer

I think he has a few people with him now. But i listened to the interview at the start of the year, so i'm starting to the detail.

Exploring instances should be as easy as looking up any other website. At least to get their 'local' front page. Or just navigate to them through that link above.

As an example you could look up jlai.lu, a french instance. They're pretty active.
