Welcome to c/news! We aim to foster a book-club type environment for discussion and critical analysis of the news. Our policy objectives are:
-
To learn about and discuss meaningful news, analysis and perspectives from around the world, with a focus on news outside the Anglosphere and beyond what is normally seen in corporate media (e.g. anti-imperialist, anti-Zionist, Marxist, Indigenous, LGBTQ, people of colour).
-
To encourage community members to contribute commentary and for others to thoughtfully engage with this material.
-
To support healthy and good faith discussion as comrades, sharpening our analytical skills and helping one another better understand geopolitics.
We ask community members to appreciate the uncertainty inherent in critical analysis of current events, the need to constantly learn, and take part in the community with humility. None of us are the One True Leftist, not even you, the reader.
Newcomm and Newsmega Rules:
The Hexbear Code of Conduct and Terms of Service apply here.
-
Link titles: Please use informative link titles. Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed.
-
Content warnings: Posts on the newscomm and top-level replies on the newsmega should use content warnings appropriately. Please be thoughtful about wording and triggers when describing awful things in post titles.
-
Fake news: No fake news posts ever, including April 1st. Deliberate fake news posting is a bannable offense. If you mistakenly post fake news the mod team may ask you to delete/modify the post or we may delete it ourselves.
-
Link sources: All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. If you are citing a Twitter post as news, please include the Xcancel.com (or another Nitter instance) or at least strip out identifier information from the twitter link. There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance, such as Libredirect or archive them as you would any other reactionary source.
-
Archive sites: We highly encourage use of non-paywalled archive sites (i.e. archive.is, web.archive.org, ghostarchive.org) so that links are widely accessible to the community and so that reactionary sources don’t derive data/ad revenue from Hexbear users. If you see a link without an archive link, please archive it yourself and add it to the thread, ask the OP to fix it, or report to mods. Including text of articles in threads is welcome.
-
Low effort material: Avoid memes/jokes/shitposts in newscomm posts and top-level replies to the newsmega. This kind of content is OK in post replies and in newsmega sub-threads. We encourage the community to balance their contribution of low effort material with effort posts, links to real news/analysis, and meaningful engagement with material posted in the community.
-
American politics: Discussion and effort posts on the (potential) material impacts of American electoral politics is welcome, but the never-ending circus of American Politics© Brought to You by Mountain Dew™ is not welcome. This refers to polling, pundit reactions, electoral horse races, rumors of who might run, etc.
-
Electoralism: Please try to avoid struggle sessions about the value of voting/taking part in the electoral system in the West. c/electoralism is right over there.
-
AI Slop: Don't post AI generated content. Posts about AI race/chip wars/data centers are fine.
love to see it!
I was even sad when my friend buzzed their's off, but apparently they got tired of all the conditioning and how expensive a hair conditioner that worked for them was. Still supported their choice anyways
yeah ive been there, its so expensive to have natural hair. all products that actually work are expensive as hell. its a shame because if we in a less capitalist hellhole we would all do each others hair for free, i like looking at precolonial black hair styles so and unique and beautiful and varied. good on you for supporting your friend. you know youre my favorite white south african? (the bar is in hell, but youve cleared it lol)
The bar might as well be on the floor lol. How do you know some others, guessing immigrants to the US? In general the worst of us are among the immigrat/expat community.
ive worked a a cafe in a tourist traps so ive met rich assholes from all over the world. scandanavians (i cant tell them apart) are the fucking worst, they keep saying im "too friendly" and trying to touch my hair and flirt with me. than australians than south africans. rich Chinese people dont make small talk with me almost at all but im gonna chalk that up to a cultural thing. australians suck so hard they always come in and say "i would order a flat white but you couldnt make it right" and im like yes i can ive practiced for you fuckers and they go "no you wouldnt make it right ill take a frap" and than i scream. honestly the south african adults are just awkward its the CHILDREN that are little racist freaks, i have never in my life have seen worse behaved more entitled children. Its the most humiliating thing to be berated by a CHILD and forced to make their drink 3 times while the mother encourages them to call me stupid.
The children probably learn from how our society is structured here. It's common for upper/middle class families to have a maid/domestic worker (who is in 99% of cases a black woman) clean their entire house for minimum wage. And pretty much everyone working in low paid service jobs, from cashiers to petrol pump attendants and waiters/waitresses, are black. So the children learn from that blatant racial inequality and act like that and become spoilt racist brats. I just hope they grow out of it when they get older.
would you say most of the adults are still pretty racist? like is it hard to find non racist white people to be friends with?
Among older people yes most people are still very racist, but the situation is better among younger people. Still a lot of racism though, the amount of young people that have felt comfortable using the k word around me is way too high. But the situation is still much better than before among young folks, though I tend to avoid the crazies so yeah.
well i learned a new slur today. I do love hearing your perspective on things, I feel like ive learned so much from having you on here.
I just hope what I'm saying is helpful and accurate, I just talk about what I see here.
Sorry about that.
no no im never gonna get called that here, dont apologize. its good to know things things too.
