The OP has comments disabled and it didn't seem right to not say thank you and goodbye.

To the entire team past and present at lemm.ee- Thank you for the time and resources you poured into this platform. You will undoubtedly be missed.

Hey everyone

We’re really sorry to say this, but lemm.ee will be shutting down on June 30, 2025.

What you need to know

As of now:

  • New user registrations are disabled
  • Creating new communities is disabled

What you should do:

  • You can export your settings at https://lemm.ee/settings to take them with you to another instance.
  • If you're moving to another instance, consider adding a note to your lemm.ee profile with your new username. Your old profile will still be visible from other instances even after we go offline.
  • Alternatively, if you want to delete your lemm.ee profile, now is the best time to do it, so the deletion can federate out before we go offline.
  • If you're one of the folks supporting us with a recurring donation, please remember to cancel it (Ko-Fi donations should have been cancelled automatically already). Our leftover funds are already enough to cover our bills for next month, so we can keep things running without any more support.

Because of how Lemmy is built, everything posted on lemm.ee will still be accessible from other instances, even after we go offline.

Why this is happening

The key reason is that we just don’t have enough people on the admin team to keep the place running. Most of the admin team has stepped down, mostly due to burnout, and finding replacements hasn’t worked out.

The sad reality is that while there are a lot of great people on Lemmy, there are also some who use the platform to attack others, stir up conflict, or actively try to undermine the project. Admins are volunteers who deal with the latter group on a constant basis, this takes a mental toll. Please understand why our admins chose to step down, and be kind to the admins on whatever instance you decide to join.

We know this sucks. We're genuinely sorry it’s ending like this. Thank you to everyone who spent time here and helped make it better.

– lemm.ee team

See this thread for reproducing the error:

If you upload a webp that is animated the preview is a still image, and clicking on it shows just a single frame of the webp.

Adding the image to the body of the post lets it play automatically on Boost, but clicking the image makes it behave like a still image again.

Build 1.0.15 (19)

Glad to see @rmayayo@lemmy.world around again, thank you for all you've done to bring Boost to Lemmy.

Are there any plans to build in Admin functionality like viewing and processing new user applications, voting data, etc? Some of the other apps offer this functionality and it would be greatly appreciated if you could add them to Boost. If it's too niche of a request I understand but I'm sure I'm not the only one who would appreciate it.

Thanks again for the continued work. Looking forward to what the future brings to Boost.

Went from Google to Proton and have since moved on from Proton. If there's one thing I wish I would've thought of before switching it would've been not using a single provider for everything.

At the end of the day it got me off Google, but with more or less the same situation I started with. Everything I was using was housed by one company. If they go under or turn evil you're scrambling to replace all your online services at once all over again. That isn't something I'm comfortable with so I split my service selection up and moved to multiple companies for the services I actually use.

Having everything in one place is super convenient until something happens that makes you want or need to move again. I'm happier now and ended up paying a bit less overall which is cool.

The honest answer usually isn't what people want to hear.

Many people come to Lemmy thinking they can maintain whatever their habits were on reddit. For most people that means lurking and voting, not much else. Lemmy isn't really big enough yet for that to work unless you're only interested in the dominant topics here like linux and star trek, so people quickly get discouraged because Lemmy is "empty." As if every social media site hasn't started the same way...

For many/most of us the communities we were used to loitering in on reddit don't exsist or aren't active enough to lurk in without getting bored. That means we need to shift towards content generation/creation/sharing rather than just consumption. Not everyone is going to be comfortable doing that. It also isn't going to happen over night.

The only way Lemmy will grow and become what you/we want it to be is by sticking around and participating. For many of us that means doing different things than we were used to on reddit. Lemmy is still very much in the early stages of it's development and culture and it's up to the users to decide what kind of place it's going to be. It takes time and effort, and understanding that Lemmy is not and will never be reddit.

If people want reddit, it's still there for them. Lemmy is still forming an identity and we're all a part of it.

The initial move feels a bit like you're giving up on an old friend imo. Many of us hoped reddit would change course or stop sliding towards what they've become but it's obvious now that there will be no turn around. The enshitification will continue until nothing recognizable is left.

With Lemmy and the fediverse you have the chance to make it your own and help shape it as it grows, hopefully avoiding the missteps of reddit.

Welcome to Lemmy mate. Have fun settling in to your new home.
