Germany's spy agency BfV has labeled the entirety of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party as an extremist entity.

The BfV domestic intelligence agency, which is in charge of safeguarding Germany's constitutional order, said the announcement comes after an "intense and comprehensive" examination.

"The ethnicity-and ancestry-based conception of the people that predominates within the party is not compatible with the free democratic order," the BfV said on Friday.

Hopefully this inspires the other parties to to start the process to see the AfD banned. I know the report might not look like much, because of how obvious the findings are. But previous attempts at banning them have failed because such an official report was missing. So maybe our political system starts getting its shit together.

As we say in Germany: Hope dies last

I stand corrected

The Linux support of Snapdragon SOCs for desktops and laptops is unfortunately severely lacking. Qualcomm pledged to provide upstream divers, but then the Windows drivers turned out to be a mess and the Linux version had to wait. It is nowhere near production ready. Most of the hardware enablement work is currently as far as I can tell being done by German OEM Tuxedo Computers because they are working on a Snapdragon powered laptop that ships with Linux. But even their work was impacted by Qualcomm stalling (the linked blog article lists Christmas 2024 as their target release date and that didn't happen).

Bazzite:

  • Fedora based, so newer libraries
  • Atomic updates, therefore doesn't break on updates
  • Steam and Lutris are preinstalled

Article both in German and behind a paywall. I've translated the most relevant parts:

Donald Trump's most important security advisors discussed a military strike via signal chat. Research by [the German magazine] SPIEGEL now shows that the problem is even bigger. [...] Private contact details of US President Donald Trump's most important security advisors are available on the internet. Research by SPIEGEL revealed mobile numbers, email addresses and, in some cases, passwords.

For the research, information from commercial personal search engines and customer data published online was used. National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, US Intelligence Coordinator Tulsi Gabbard and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth are demonstrably affected by the leaks.

Most of the publicly accessible numbers and email addresses are probably still being used by those affected. Some of them are linked to profiles on Instagram and LinkedIn, among others. They were used to create Dropbox accounts and profiles in apps that track running data. There are WhatsApp profiles for the respective phone numbers, and in some cases even Signal accounts. [...] It is therefore conceivable that foreign agents were reading along when Gabbard, Waltz and Hegseth discussed a military strike in a signals chat with others.

Reactionaries use meme culture not just because they’re terminally online but also because it makes their behavior seem either benign or just confusing to outsiders. They find it hilarious that they can be really explicit and still fly under the radar. The Alt-Right did this with Pepe the Frog, the OK sign, even the milk glass emoji for a hot minute. The more inexplicable the meme, the better. You get the point where Stephen Miller is flashing Nazi signs from the White House and the [Trump] Presidential re-eletion campaign is releasing 88 ads of exactly 14 words and there’s still a debate about whether the administration is racist. Because journalists aren’t going to get their heads around that. You tell them “1488 is a Nazi number,” it’s gonna seem a lot more plausible that you’re making shit up.

Looks to me like you are trying to update via fwupd. While this should work via GNOME Software, you can also use the the terminal to do this.

The command is fwupdmgr update

This is your friendly reminder, that the Stop Kiling Games campaign is still running. I haven't been posting updates for a while, because progress has slowed considerably over the last month and there hasn't been anything to write about. But it feels relevant here.

https://stopkillinggames.com

(Campaign only running in select jurisdictions, the US is not one if them)

Wow. You really don't see the irony in that sentence, do you?

It's bazzite with a custom UI instead of Steam Big Picture and no desktop mode. Their big claim seems to be that they say that they have solved anti cheat on Linux: the system generates a checksum of the kernel space, the anti cheat then compares this checksum with the one on file. No custom kernel module needed on the part of the anti cheat dev. At least in theory.

There is a UK petition in the works. It's not quite ready yet, because thanks to your recent election the team behind the initiative had to redo all of their work. (Your government requires everybody to resubmit petitions if a new parliament is elected)

Also just getting 100% in 7 countries is not ging to be enough to reach 1 million votes total.

So you should keep signing it either way. Every vote still counts
