Asking Brits who saw Threads when they were in school in the 80's (I guess you're probably in your early to mid 50's now, right?).

How did you and others in your class react to the film? Did you and your peers worry much around that time?

Just finished it myself, and it was very convincing in how it depicted the effects of a nuclear attack. Some of the events detailed as precursors to nuclear war were also worryingly similar to current events.

We’ve been on holiday with two dogs. The last few days have been so hot that we could go out with them only early in the morning. Thankfully the place we are staying has stone walls and seemingly good loft insulation that moderate temperature fluctuations.

How have you been coping?

I'm doing my best to stop drinking, but my local only has Heineken 0 available. What else do you lot drink that I can reliably get in the pub, which isn't full of caffeine or sugar?

Water is about all I can think of but I'm wondering if there is something I can ask for that I'm overlooking. I'm hoping this will be like when I learned about pesto; I couldn't believe I had gone so long before eating it.

So I know the theory of shaving with the grain:

  • Doesnt irritate the skin
  • Proves you didn't grow up fatherless/motherless

But... it doesn't work, right? Against the grain is the only way to get a smooth shave... surely?

Mundane yet shocking sights? (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

I saw a bus being towed. Hitched up at the front so pulling a bus wheelie.

Also some years ago outside tesco there were people fixing the dodgy wheels on the trolleys. Breathtaking scenes.

Apparently, 'The Blue Danube' by Johann Strauss was requested for the Arrival, specifically the version played during the film '2001 - A Space Odyssey'.

What they actually got was a piece of music by Richard Strauss called 'Sunrise' (taken from 'Thus Spoke Zarathustra'), which was the film's main theme.

The thought still makes me giggle: imagine the pall bearers walking solemnly into the crematorium to the sound of this awesome rendition!

Judging by the size of the fruits it's made of, it's meant to be like twice the height of a human too

Personally, I don't like them, because of the asymmetry of effort in sending vs receiving, and that you can't tell how serious it is before listening to it.

Daughter pulled this out from a pack of Walkers Roast Chicken and she was amazed by its form and purity. If there was an encyclopedia Britanica entry for crisps, this would be the accompanying image.

Carrageen pudding and Bedfordshire clangers might no longer be household staples, but some home chefs are bringing them back.

I'm sure we had a food community on feddit.uk but I can't locate it.
