Not sure I can explain this well, but I just saw a reply to a comment of mine in the inbox. When I click on it, it shows the reply to my comment, but if I scroll up, my comment is shown as a reply to a totally different comment to the one I originally replied to.

If I click to ‘view all’ button in the inbox, I can find my comment, and the reply that was in my inbox, and they’re all ‘threaded’ correctly.

Let me know if I can provide links / screenshots to try to share what’s happening.

Edit: when viewing the thread from the inbox, I also see lots of ‘More replies…’ buttons that don’t do anything.

Not sure what happened here, but when I went to edit my comment in that other post, it opened like this and (a) only showed the first line, and (b) wouldn’t let me tap in to edit. Locking and unlocking the phone got the full comment back and I was able to edit, but still tapping to move the caret was broken.

Hope that makes sense :)

First of all, I’m loving the new clean experience with images. But it has thrown up an issue with videos in that the overlays are actually quite important there (play, pause, mute, scrub, etc). So, could those be separate settings for different kinds of media?

One other thing I miss from Apollo days is ’drag to scrub’. If that were possible on Mlem, it would be fantastic.

Another fabulous bit of UX by google.

I have, quite literally, seen this post 9 times now. Is there a way to automatically hide the remaining 8 once I’ve marked one of them as ‘read’? I have ‘mark read on scroll’ set, so it would need to be something dynamic rather than on refresh, and I know that can cause scroll position issues. But tbh I’d like to learn to live with that rather than see the same stuff constantly.

Just noticed a weird rendering issue when switching apps. Viewing a comment with a code block looks fine, until switching away and then back to Mlem. Heres what it ends up looking like.

Really liking the new image settings such as not showing the controls by default. But they kept appearing for me and I couldn’t work out why until just now.

Open an image, zoom in, then pan a small amount. Looks like a small drag is interpreted as a tap, and the controls alternately show / hide.

I’d happily turn the overlay off completely if that was an option; I can’t remember the last time I actually needed them—the close icon isn’t needed with the swipe to dismiss, and you can easily get to save / share by long press after closing. Since I use those so rarely, that would be better UX for me.

I often see this ‘more replies’ button, but it doesn’t do anything other than flicker slightly when tapped—like it was going to load something and then thought better of it…

As mentioned in another post, I've moved here from Arctic since it stopped development, and there are just a couple of things I miss. Overall of course mlem is much better, if nothing else than by dint of ongoing development, and it would be fab to see little UX improvements here and there, so this is my stab at documenting the ones that niggle me the most. Others may disagree, and that's fine; this is, in the words of the great one, just my opinion man.

Opening an image on Arctic was just about the best user experience I'd had since Apollo. Here are the main differences I see:

  1. Open image without the overlay—no distractions, or buttons covering up bits of the meme text. It's far more common to just want to see the image than to share, copy, save, etc.
  2. Double-tap and drag to zoom—probably the biggest one for me. This is so much better for one-handed operation on a smaller device. The double tap zoom is too extreme in most cases.
  3. Single tap when zoomed to reset zoom—again, much quicker to reset / close an image, and more likely than needing the overlay. Dismissing a zoomed image in Arctic was basically 'tap, swipe', and very slick.
  4. Reduce drag distance to dismiss—this is perhaps just a preference, but I'd like to reduce that to almost zero, so that the tiniest flick of a finger would dismiss a 'non-zoomed' image.
  5. Improve rotation handling—this is hard to describe, but open an image, zoom in / out, then rotate the device. The zoom is now weirdly offset, and it's easy to even lose an image off-screen.

I'd also love the option to permanently hide the zoom factor popup—again, just distraction and I'd rather not see it, but appreciate others may like that, so definitely some of the above should be options: show overlay at start, show zoom factor, dismiss sensitivity, etc.

I'd highly recommend trying out Arctic just for this one thing; there's plenty else it doesn't do as well, but I feel images were a strong point. You could even open a compact feed view thumbnail as an image, rather than opening the link which was sometimes useful.

Not sure what he’s up to. Any ideas?

I'm sure I remember a similar story about someone very excited to get a response each night, and eventually they followed the return call, it got louder and louder, and eventually they saw some other idiot hooting like an owl through the trees.

Those guys are amateurs. Try being the Uk government—compulsorily purchase private land for new rail line, hand lucrative contracts to your mates to clear mature oaks (which they get to keep, worth £5k each), accidentally clear more than is needed, then cancel the rail line.

PSP is travelling at 394,736mph. Voyager 1 is about 15 billion miles away and travelling at about 35,000mph.

Time taken to catch up t is roughly 394736t = 15000000000 +35000t or about 4.75 years.
