Householders are angered by the discovery they cannot remortgage or sell their homes after installing spray-foam insulation to cut energy use.

We already have the left wing vote split by Labour, Lib Dem and Green.

If you want to claim the 36%, you'll need to add up the left wing parties together.

Pretty depressing reading.

[Edit] I had the archive link as a comment but this has gained enough traction that it's not obvious. Here it is again so you don't have to give FT any clicks https://archive.is/ypkln

There are lots of things that can be put down to personal taste, however I can't let this abomination go.

I am referring to Branston Smooth.

I love Branston Pickle, but I can't get on board with Branston paste. Is there a better example where a manufacturer made an updated version of a food that was objectively worse?

So you don't understand what a monopoly is?

Because you don't have to be the only player in the overall game to be a monopoly, just simply big and powerful enough to be unaffected by the other players which fits Apples description.

This will probably lead to vocal outrage because it's Systemd rather than an alternative project coming up with the solution.

Sudo has long known to have dangerous weaknesses, but it's generally been accepted since sudo solves a bunch of other problems. If we can fix the problems sudo has, then that's a good thing. Would be nicer if we could split up some of these projects though to stop uber projects.

Completely disagree. This is how it works, Microsoft get software for free but they have no authority to prioritise other people's scheduling

But this sounds exactly the sort of thing that machines are better at that people, so it just feels completely unsurprising that it was good at the task.

Turning multiple dials to manage speed and direction is not normally how humans interact with the world, so we can we pretty shit at it.

A basic motor is completely designed to turn like this.

This feels no different to the machine learning tools used to train on Mario a decade ago.

Plex for books? (feddit.uk)
submitted 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) by frazorth@feddit.uk to c/selfhosted@lemmy.world

I've picked up an eink Android tablet, which is awesome. However I have plenty of ebooks I've purchased over the years on places such as Humble, and I was wondering whether there was a self hosted solution like Plex/Emby/Jellyfin but designed for ebooks.

I've seen Calibre but it doesn't seem to be quite the same thing, and running a sync is a bit clunky for the spouse factor.

Is there anything that would index the books, show a bookshelf and allow me to read them, with offline support?

Preferably with an Android app for reading with, and the reader handling eink rather than scrolling.

It goes to show that those articles that shit on Millennials are just trying to create a division.

They pay everything that they are required to.

HMRC enforces the rules, they don't make them. The issue is not that Amazon doesn't pay taxes, it is that successive Tory governments allow them to offshore profits because the rules that Starbucks follow are the ones set up to let MPs offshore their money.

Remember, the Queen and our PM were in the Panama Papers. It was ignored because it is by design.
