Both Ukraine and Palestine are fighting against an invading force. We can unanimously agree that Palestinians have have been illegally occupied in an open air prison/concentration camp for 75 years. And we seem to agree that Palestine cannot be a perfect victim and it is reasonable that they seek support in Hamas instead of their Israeli oppressors.

Now why can't the same logic be applied to Ukraine? There is absolutely a nazi problem in Ukraine. A nazi problem that needs to be wiped out. But Russia isnt trying to denazify Ukraine, they're trying to maintain borders and resist NATO. But while doing so they are indiscriminately killing civilians and are the aggressors.

Personally, I believe in what Norman Finkelstein has to say about Hezbollah and the red army. Both are not perfect, but I don't care about their politics. I care that they are a resisting force and believe a country should have the right to self determination.

So how are these situations diametrically opposed that you seem to be hostile towards Ukraine but supportive of Palestine?

I don't mean to come off as shaming or judgemental. I genuinely would like to hear your perspective.

Edit: I appreciate all of the thoughtful and patient responses. Even though I might not respond to everything here I am reading all of it. I was operating under a lack of information, which I've never seen any Western media source report on. Ever since leaving reddit, hexbear has been a great source of alternative perspectives and context. It's opened my eyes to a lot of how I've been misled by papers that I've trusted.

I don’t think their rockets are powerful enough to fuck up a tank though. Just seems like a waste of resources, when you could either target one specific sector of the dome repeatedly, or wait until the invasion, or target the build up of troops.

Comrades, that time again! How have things been going for you? Anything cool you wanna talk about? Things not so great? This is your space to talk about it! Remember, you are loved stalin-heart

Up and down for me. Tour was a complete dud, we're never working with the booking agent again, and my ex let me know she'll be moving out in the middle of December. I'm glad they'll get to spend some time with their parents, they've been talking about moving back for years, but I just wish it was under better circumstances. Not sure what I'm gonna do yet. On the bright side, love life seems to be on an upswing again. The person who got us hotel rooms on tour came over to hang out last night. We had a few drinks with the corgi, and then TRIED to watch that killer sloth movie, but we both fell asleep on the couch for like 2 hours together. THey also baked me a loaf of chocolate pumpkin bread to say welcome home, which was super sweet.

Hope you're all well!

I promise this is not trying to have a hot-take or anything. I don't understand what I'm supposed to be getting out of the book. I've read like 3/4ths of it now and it seems like mostly normal pretty standard speeches and government stuff.

Some parts gave me a pang of sadness realizing this is what a competent government would look like, especially in the beginning sections where it's like "we should eliminate poverty starting with rural extreme poverty" because I know that they succeeded. It's kinda a reminder that these are problems that could be solved and it's not utopian to believe things could be better.

But most of the book seems to be "we should ensure peaceful, cooperative, and friendly relationships with other countries and expand existing trade relationships....". + Belt and Road stuff.

I understand that this is a collection of speeches rather than a book about ideology or a textbook, but is there something I'm supposed to be getting out of this that I'm not? Sorry that this question is really open ended.

What are the most popular Marxist reading group communities on Lemmy (probably here or on Lemmygrad)?

I came across one of these posters in my country too translated in my language, is it legit?

I went into the site when I saw it out of curiosity using a VPN, didn't insert any info or anything. Seems like a pretty big organization, too big perhaps

I go camping pretty often at a local watering hole, about 20 miles away. Probably one weekend a month, whenever the kiddos are at mom’s place. As a result i have a modest collection of 1# LP cylinders. I got tired of finding a spot to recycle my empties, and at $10 a pair, can get costly over time. And my 20# hose with inches regulator got damaged and i havent repaired it yet so Ive been refilling the 1lb’ers, marking it on the bottle. I change out the gas rated schrader valves every 3 fills, and note this on the bottle as well. I bubble test each cylinder/valve before shelving, and each cylinder gets refilled to 80% capacity of what i buy it at (pressurized tanks like this usually follow a 80/20 rule - 80% capacity only, allowing for thermal expansion, and the weight i recieve them at is already 80% of its actual capacity.) When i refill it, its only being filled to 60-65% its actual capacity.

As the title states how many cycles can these bottles handle before it becomes dangerous? There is literature that the federal government puts out that says not to refill due to stresses from cycling full/empty. There is also literature that says these same refilled DOT 39’s arent transportable once refilled. While I understand this isnt implicit permission to refill, it is acknowledging them, and how they arent allowed to be transported. So, it sounds like its done, at least. There also exists off-the-shelf solutions for refilling bottles and youtube is replete with videos on how to do it.

Or am i reaching? Does anyone here refill their 1# cylinders for camping? Does anyone know how often this is safe? Is there literature elsewhere that can shed light on this? If i cant get a firm-ish number ill likely abandon doing this and just go back to my 20# tank and proper regulator out of concern for safety.

Thanks yall.

With all the bad stuff that's happened in the past, all the bad stuff going on in the present, and the forecast being full of terrible stuff in the future, now's a great time to look for new ways to get through all the bullshit. What are your weird, unconventional, or non-traditional ways for coping with things when times get tough?

Nothing too fancy, we just talk about our hobbies.

Me? I like baking, nothing feels quite like making something delicious for family members on thanksgiving. If I could learn any skill, it would be enough about tech, coding, art, and music to make games. But I am particularly interested in making video game music.

Thinking of joining an ml party. I’ve been doing little things with dsa and other orgs now and again but it gets tiring having to hold my tongue around liberal progressives all the time and I’d like to be part of an org where I theoretically don’t have to do that.

If you’re in one of these parties, why do you like it, why should I join? I’m also mainly interested in any reasons why I should not join any of these orgs. Like are any of them just full of cops, or are they political cults full of abusers or anything? Tbh right now I’m leaning towards frso just because I like their stance of national liberation struggles within the us and also the idea that they’re sort of a “pre-party” organization, since I recognize while I’m probably knowledgeable enough theory-wise to join an ml organization, I definitely still have a lot of learning I need to (and would like to) do. But it would be nice to have comrades and not just be reading alone in my room lol.

But that is by no means set in stone and I’m hoping someone can give me a rundown of the ml landscape in the USA and/or guide me away from any parties I probably shouldn’t join.

I swear every TV show now has the same 5 voice actors and every one is some posho, spoiled kid with liberal parents who live in some mansion. It drives me nuts.

I remember hearing so many working class voices on TV when I was younger and now the only time you hear a working class voice is if they're making fun of them or they're the bad guy.

I think the "clowns are actually evil" meme has mostly played itself out (though I acknowledge that they are genuinely creepy to a lot of people in a non-funny non-meme way) in recent years, but there was a time on Civvie11's Youtube game review series where a perfectly delivered joke brought the concept back into style. Contextually, there are two robot jailers that tend to punish Civvie for numerous arbitrary infractions in the prison facility during each video (such as using puns or references that the robots don't approve of) and sometimes Civvie defiantly repeats an infraction just out of spite. So the moment went something like this:

🤖 "Civvie, stop. Or else, suffering. Pain."

agony "I don't care anymore! I'll do it again!"

🤖 "Civvie... The Clown Room."

agony-deep "... what's in the Clown Room?"

🤖 "Desolation."

I mean anything like cursed or lucky objects, ghosts, etc?

Figured it's the spooky season and I don't know too many people irl to talk to about the supernatural without discovering q-level brainworms.

I'll comment in the thread with my answer.

Ukraine does it now Israel. It's completely absurd.

It's so fucking weird, they act like they're completely removed from the actively engaged war they are in and tweet as if it's prestige television. What the hell is going on?

Do you guys compare more recent tragedies to some past event to try to gauge the level of atrocity? When 9/11 happened did people in the UK say this is 6 times worse than the troubles or some shit? Or is that just an American thing?
