This started today and hasn’t happened before. Initially I thought it was an application from work that was causing issues. I SSHed into the machine and didn’t see anything strange - I used btop.

I updated the system and rebooted. A few minutes later when I got to the machine to check everything, was frozen again. I hadn’t even logged in.

I’ve used the eos-sendlog feature to get the logs and it seems like it might be GPU related.

I was using KDE with X11 when this happened, but I’ve been using that combination for months at this point. Nothing that I’m aware of has changed or been updated recently to possibly cause this issue.

Update: I’ve done a complete shutdown (turned the PSU off) and rebooted with the LTS kernel. So far so good. It doesn’t seem to be a hardware issue as it worked fine on the live USB.

I’ve often been told that this isn’t actually true but I can’t help but feel that it does happen. Until recently I hadn’t shaved for about a year, maybe two. Now I feel like it’s growing back quicker than what it did the last time (after shaving on a more regular basis).

More specifically, if I was to attach my public key to every email — even when the recipient doesn’t use PGP.

My assumption is that “life would carry on” and there would be basically no difference but I’m not entirely sure.

the process of using PGP for encrypting content (text messages for example) is something I’m only just started understanding after some reading and practicing

EDIT

Since a couple of people have mentioned it, my email provider provides E2EE between users but it I want to have E2EE with non-users and via my aliases (SimpleLogin) with custom domains I’ll need PGP

It’s been a few years since I last shaved my beard. If I don’t get irritated skin after shaving should I still use an aftershave? If so, what do you recommend?

He most likely had bad OPSEC.

Secondly, he took this imagery he had created and then "turned to AI chatbots to ensure these minor victims would be depicted as if they had engaged in the type of sexual contact he wanted to see." In other words, he created fake AI CSAM—but using imagery of real kids.

This probably didn’t help much either.

Assuming I’ve got a website hosted on GitHub via Cloudflare with a custom domain. How different would it be to host the same site with a .onion address?

EDIT: I’ve had a few drinks so hopefully this isn’t too bad or at least makes sense.

I'm referring to projects like redlib or invidious.

I was thinking about doing something similar for a local second-hand marketplace and got curious. Redlib seems to use token spoofing to get past rate limits and Invidious doesn't even use the official YouTube API.

The only way I thought of, which would be slow, is to scrape the site (like you would with Beautiful Soup).

How would a company decide that something should be “legitimate interest” vs “consent”?

EDIT: Definition of "Legitimate Interest", when hovering over the question mark.

How does legitimate interest work?

Some vendors are not asking for your consent, but are using your personal data on the basis of their legitimate interest.

I’m not sure if this is part of the “frequency illusion”, but I’ve noticed a lot more mainstream media talking about Linux as a viable alternative.

I’m using EndeavourOS with KDE.

The display is correctly oriented when logged in but it doesn’t rotate correctly when I’m logged out.

EDIT: corrected the post. This happens when logged out, locking the screen has it displayed correctly.

At my last company, we would walk around with our laptops. People would just assume we were looking for a meeting room or had something important to do.

I can’t quite remember what we did at our desks specifically. However, I do remember a guy I worked with used to browse Wikipedia and Tinder.

Although I mention parents specifically in the title, this isn’t just for parents to respond.

My wife and I are trying to raise our child to be bilingual (English and Portuguese). Currently we’re both speaking a bit of both to our child and when they eventually go to school we’ll speak more Portuguese as they’ll be exposed to English everywhere else.

Is this a good approach or is there something we can do better?

Do people still hand out physical business cards at events or is it all digital now?

i should have asked before ordering 50, lol

EDIT:

Thank you for all the replies, I’ve got the answer I need but I’ll add some more information just in case anyone wants to know.

  • I’m based in Europe and not Japan
  • I’m working as a videographer and trying to build a film company
  • I plan on doing more event coverage so I’ll bring them with to quickly hand out my contact details.
  • The card has the following: Busines name, my name, phone number, email, and website.
  • I had thought about adding my social media but couldn’t find a nice way to do it that matched the rest of the card.

EDIT 2: just now realised I didn’t complete the last sentence of the last bullet point

I know the title sounds a little strange but hear me out. The time tracking software I use for work doesn’t work on Wayland, unless I’m using Gnome as my DE. They have an extension that allows it to work in this case. Personally, I don’t enjoy Gnome on my desktop (I use it on my laptop). Is there a way for me to get the functionality that this extension provides on KDE so that I can use Wayland on my desktop as well?

Time tracking software:

EDIT: I have included more files in the codeberg repo. I hope this helps.

The title is a quote from Mastodon. I’ve always seen dislike towards snap so I was taken back when I saw this stance. The person who wrote this was referring to Tuxedo Laptops.

What are your thoughts on this?

This. Thank you for explaining it correctly, I’ve seen sooo many people saying it’s just filters. Of course, there will almost always be some colour correction but the way a camera a camera can capture the light is different to the naked eye.

This is somewhat related to the article but also a little off topic.

I started using Linux about 6 months ago now and I feel like it’s been a continual learning experience (in a positive way). I was comfortable enough with Windows that I was on autopilot with most things.

I’ve used systemctl previously but I love seeing articles like this, so freely available, where I have the chance to learn a lot more about my system.

Tangent over, just had this on my mind for a while and needed to share.

TIL EndeavourOS enabled that by default. I always thought it was standard...

I've noticed two things.

  1. I am a lot more active. On Reddit I was mostly just a lurker. On Lemmy I want to comment and post.
  2. Following on from 1. It feels more like a community here, on Reddit after a post had a certain number of comments/upvotes, I knew that mine would never be seen. I don't have that feeling on Lemmy.

I’m in the EU as well and am working for a company in the USA. They make us use our own computers for work - which includes installing time tracking software.

I am actively trying to get out of the company and do not recommend working for a company that makes you use your own device. Since they are only registered in the USA, I have no legal protection from the EU and my country of residence.

Sorry for the tangent, I just think it’s important for others to see as well.

To everyone complaining about DDG, what are you using? I’ve been using DDG for years now and it’s been fine for me. I have also been testing out StartPage.

On a side not. Is it just me or does Amazon never follow the delivery instructions?

[-] governorkeagan@lemdro.id 35 points 1 year ago

Buying second hand is underrated. I’ll often try buy something second hand first and just give it a good clean, I’ve saved loads like that.

There’s a bug on v0.19 that is affecting outgoing federation. I believe it’s fixed on v0.19.1.
