I think I've read somewhere that there still is maintenance but can't find it now. In any case Cantata works perfectly!

Which RAID? (lemm.ee)

Hey everyone. So I'm trying to decide which RAID should I choose for my 6trays NAS. I have 4 x 16TB HDDs, 1x8TB HDD and another one 500GB ssd that I will use as a containers' docker folder usage. I will be using the NAS to store Media files (movies, tv series, photos, music etc.) and also documents. Currently I have the 2 16tb as RAID 1 that only the Media files are stored and I am in between either creating another RAID 1 with the remaining 2 16Tbs or adding them to the other 2 to create a RAID 5 and have a bigger storage pool Have you had any incident where 2 HDDs were lost-damaged simultaneously (as RAID 5 forgives loss of only 1 drive) or not?

In addition I was thinking of having the 8TB HDD as a standalone to backup the documents and maybe the photos and the docker setups.

Does this make sense to anyone that uses similar setup?

Thanks for your inputs!

Ok basically what the title ask. There are so many note taking apps available and also the good old notepad, but, how do you take notes? What do you actually take-keep notes on? Is it like complicated things or simple ones?

All time times that I started using an app or a pen and paper intended up just using a simple reminder for things. Others I just remember.

It's indeed very difficult and my take is that the system wants us like this. To be depressed, full of fear and hopeless. Mainly of course through media.

What I considered one solution to fight back this is to discuss current events, solutions etc with a group of similar minded people. I don't mean join a cult etc. No far from it. But finding people with same concerns by openly discussing them will bond them into bigger groups and this helps a lot. Gives a sense of fulfilment and hope.

No fear. Act.

Hey everyone. So I'll try to keep the post short. I have selfhosting for roughly 5 years quite few apps with Yunohost with a static ip address in an i3 3rd generation, namely the below:

  • Nextcloud. Used for documents backup-sync, calendar and contacts sync, Joplin folder sync, also in the past Photos uplod folder from the mobile (we can call it webDav). In addition online remote documents edits and that's about it. Nextcloud does not causes any major issue but I am kinda afraid to each upgrade that might screw things up.

  • Vaultwarden

  • Baikal. Mainly Because I wanted to try it and get away from Nextcloud better late than never.

  • Firefly III. Because, budget. Not actively using it. I have set up some automations for expenses but I do not enter either manually nor importing transactions via the Importer (never made it to work).

  • FreshRSS

  • Syncthing. Userd mainly for Obsidian sync.

  • Wallabag.

  • Webmin.

  • Roundcube for Yunohost's mails only since port 25 is blocked by my ISP.

I also selfost inhouse via DOCKER (arr stack and Jellyfin) in a SFF desktop HP, Ryzen 7, 65gb Ram, with a 256 GM SSD for Linux Mint, 4TB SSD (movies, tv series, music), a 1TB SSD for additional temp storage and a 4TB external HDD as also media storage (movies, tv series, photos). This machine is blocked access from the outside since I do not need it. In case I want to access to put some downloads in a queue then I have setup a wireguard tunnel. Note that I play media with a NVIDIA Shield TV (LineageOS flashed) so no transcoding is done or necessary.

Now, to the juicy stuff. Ideally I would like for now keep the Yunohost as is BUT want to tidy ip the inhouse one. Since I might get rid of the HP desktop I am thinking to invest in a new PC with the below characteristics:

  • i5-12600K
  • 64 GB RAM
  • 256 SSD for OS or thinking also Proxmox
  • 4 HDDs roughly 12T each for storage in RAID 5.

The idea is to:

  • Continue run the arr stack in Docker since I have the docker compose file ready
  • Set up a NAS. Please recommend any solution (eg. TrueNas, how, docker, lxc, VM?). This should be setup as main files dump for media, documents etc.
  • Future use in case the Yunohost server is removed from the static IP address (currently in another location)
  • RAID 5 is an excessive setup you think?

Does the above seem an overkill or should I simplify the current setup? Investing in a new server of approx 1000-1500€ is OK including also the HDDs.

I would appreciate any input to clear things up.

Many thanks!

Now that 2024 is coming to the end and Christmas around the corner, have you considered any donations to be given? If yes where?

Hey everyone. So I created a wire guard tunnel to my home network in order to access my are containers but all I can access is my router login page and one of my access point login page. All being in the same range is 192.168.3.1(router), 192.168.3.2 (access point and switch) and 192.168.3.10 server. My arr listen to their respective ports ie 8989 for sonarr etc. When I'm at home I reach them with no issues. What could be the reason I can't access them remotely?

Hey all,

So I'm in the search for good quality skate style t-shirts, preferably not black and white. In the past I was a big fun of the Animal brand but in the recent years they've turned mainstream.

Any recommendations are much appreciated!

Create a general account(you don't have to provide any phone number, only a valid email address) and use Squawker app from fdroid inserting the credentials you created in it.
