All of this spending to: Check notes Kill children from countries you never knew existed, in military operations that are completely illegal.

[-] GladiusB@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Illegal is so... subjective. You just beat em down until they admit that they were wrong.

[-] Gladaed@feddit.org -2 points 1 month ago

So is drying your laundry outside.

There are different degrees of being illegal. There is a difference between going across a street and going to do a murder.

Also there hasn't been an established pattern of the us targeting schools, hospitals and childcare facilities. Missiles are shit, inaccurate weapons and tend to strike somewhere close to their targets. Collateral damage is usually not considered to be a war crime.

Man it is hilarious how every time you call out genocidal maniacs there is always one of them getting their feelings hurt. cowards and butchers are incredibly touchy! We always need to remember that nazi defenders are also nazis themselves.

Your propaganda is worthless. The American And Israeli government make it very clear that they are sending whole countries back to the stone age, and the genocidal intent is clear with their actions. Nazis are doing nazi shit. SO i believe the next step will be to designate the Israel and American military as terrorist organizations.

Well suited for every worthless coward serving the american military and IDF to be known as terrorists.

SO i believe the next step will be to designate the Israel and American military as terrorist organizations.

I'm not a political scientist or anything, but I think you should probably stop doing business with the USA, stop using US weapon systems, stop accepting US loans, and stop using the US dollar for international trade before declaring them terrorists.

After all, you're doing business with Nazis, so until you do this you are also Nazis.

I really like this attitude! A lot of people from where i live are already boycotting American products and services, we can take it a step forward and move towards de coupling economically from the united states. A lot of important manufacturing is comes from east Asia already, the future of energy is solar, Europe is going to great lengths to decouple technologically and establishing regulations for big tech. And American products have been gradually enshittifying for decades, american products are more expensive, their quality has been driven down by lack of regulation and american companies have been become stauchnly anti consumer, even their movies and tv suck these days!

So your idea is awesome: Not doing business with nazis would be great for the world, and the americans are already isolating themselves with their abusive militaristic attitude! It would be great to live in a world where we are not tied to american trade agreements and they cannot enforce economic terrorism on whoever they want and where everything is not tied down to the dollar! The best part is the current administration is dumb enough to make this happen in our lifetimes. So that's the attitude! Fuck the american nazis!

[-] Mulligrubs@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

As an American I agree with you 100%. But do realize the "machine" is even bigger than the USA alone, don't stop there, friend

[-] Gladaed@feddit.org -2 points 1 month ago

Yeah, but the killing of children to inflicting suffering isn't the primary goal as far as can be told for the us military.

It is the goal for other militaries in the world.

"Missiles are shit, innacurate weapons"

I would invite you to watch this video discussing the technology beyond one of the US's old ICBMs. It could accurately strike from across the world, with no external reference, after being held in a silo for a long time. Obviously these aren't the same missiles being used here, but it's a good demonstration of the level of technology that the US defense industry can create.

I don't think it's fair to say that we can't build an accurate missile.

Also, there have been reports of multiple strikes on the same location (to kill first responders responding to the first strike) - If this was down to random chance, the odds of hitting the same "incorrect" target twice are extremely slim.

I think it's pretty clear that the US has extremely capable weapons technology, and that this is entirely intentional.

[-] Gladaed@feddit.org 1 points 1 month ago

I also heard a few, reports about double taps but not enough to make it seem like a strategy.

Israel, for example, is alleged to use them widely. So is Russia.

A missile and an ICBM are vastly different technologies.

Money for schools

Oh, that money is definitely going to schools.

[-] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Schools, Research Centers, Cancer Drug Manufacturing, Orphanages ...

[-] scottmeme@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

It's getting there fast and making a large impact.

[-] becausechemistry@piefed.social 6 points 1 month ago

Well, it’s full of toxic fuels.

The money is actually going to defense contractors, an obscene percentage of which goes to like one guy who probably hunts poor people for fun on the weekends.

[-] huppakee@piefed.social 3 points 1 month ago

The money is actually going to

It's not about who receives the money, it's about where that money would have went if it wasn't put in the missile.

[-] MerryJaneDoe@piefed.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

With respect, it's also about who receives the money.

RTX makes the Tomahawk.

In 2016, the stock was at 59. Now it's at almost 200. A return of 338%. That's about the same rate of return as the S&P 500 in the same timeframe. The difference being, the worst performing stocks in the S&P are regularly swapped out.

So, yeah, these guys are pretty much a sure bet to make money.

[-] MerryJaneDoe@piefed.world 1 points 1 month ago

When you're a billionaire, pretty much everyone else is a poor people... and, as an added bonus, you get to use Tomahawk missiles to hunt them.

[-] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

The money for children's cancer research goes into ballrooms.

[-] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

I would be curious how much these missiles are marked up.

It can't actually cost like $14.9 million in materials and production costs and then $100k profit for the company can it?

I wonder if it's like $5million production cost and then $10million profit

[-] fatalicus@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

I'm pretty sure these are one of those "it costs $1 million to manufacture and then 14 million to guarantee they work and everything is documented." things.

Kills people.

[-] Poem_for_your_sprog@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

It's a turbojet engine tho

[-] yesman@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

It's a myth that the US could fund it's healthcare if it didn't fund the military. This is because we already spend more on healthcare than the military already. By a lot.

Medicare alone has a similar budget to the entire Pentagon!

We're not too cheep for healthcare, we're getting ripped off!

[-] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

We spend more on healthcare than the government spends on the military, the government does not.

[-] fitgse@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

We spend more on health care per person and have worse outcomes than any country in the global north.

That has a lot to do with privatizing all our medical facilities and wasting a ton of money through private insurance.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

most of its being subsidized by govt, via insurance companies its just that people never benefit from thsoe taxes paid, via through medical procedures, hospitals, medication that are from private corporations. besides they have low cost health insurance for service members, which is universal(tricare),

medicaid/care is the govt already negotatited prices(which should be the norm) that keeps cost low. besides other countries also have private healthcare if the public version is too slow. you can have both.

[-] SirActionSack@aussie.zone 1 points 4 weeks ago

Clearly fake, there's no raptor anywhere.

[-] Eh_I@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

The rocket is the real tyrant.

[-] hobata@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 month ago

You can't deny it, but the tomahawks are kind of made for schools in distant countries.

[-] MDCCCLV@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago

They were made for fighting Russia like most of the major weapon systems, but haven't had any opportunity to do so.

[-] nonentity@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago

Funding at the federal level is never an either/or choice, it’s an active, explicit declaration of what the administration wants.

Perpetuating this specious framing provides cover for malignant sociopaths.

[-] mr_sunburn@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 month ago

Unpopular opinion perhaps, but same thing applies to that US lunar launch.

[-] lobut@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago

I think the war budget is much higher though?

[-] mr_sunburn@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 month ago

Is this a question? It's a fact you can look up.

[-] huppakee@piefed.social 0 points 1 month ago

But nobody dies from the lunar launch

[-] mr_sunburn@lemmy.ml -1 points 1 month ago

Indirectly they do. Every dollar spent there is a dollar that doesn't go to the homeless or those who can't afford healthcare.

[-] GreenBeanMachine@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Is warhead the cheapest part? Should it be made of gold or diamonds maybe?

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 4 weeks ago

trump would definitely fund it if it were a gaudy missile. it would probably be useless since gold is heavy.
