The U.S. has always been a threat to democracies all over the planet. Look up the number of countries they have supported right-wing dictators in and coups against democratically elected left-leaning leaders. tRump has just bought the totalitarianism home, and dropped the mask for all the world to see.

People need to remember history and not get fooled if the mask ever goes back on.

Inb4 some pedant quibbles that "the planet itself is not dying." Yeah, but we and our fellow creatures are. It should be understood that is what Mr. Phillips meant.

Resistance is not futile, the USA has not prevailed (single-handedly) against resistance movements in any country of our size in their history. IEDs are cheap, effective, and relatively easy to make. Canada has farms with fuel oil and fertilizer, and lots of firearms.
