Hmm had an error loading the full post in Piefed even tho I posted in it. But yes I think that showing all the comments to a link across instances like how piefed and many clients do is great and makes the place feel more lively

Seeing some push back here on the idea of confusing things with more terms than just "fediverse". I get that. The problem is that that cat is very much out of the bag. Surely, for the vast majority of people that have any awareness of the fediverse, they think it's just Mastodon.

Either way, "Mastodon" is a much larger "brand" than "fediverse" or anything else on the fediverse. So trying to get some conceptual branding going makes sense. It make things more clear, as the idea of the fediverse itself is kinda fuzzy and complex and probably best left out at the beginning. It's a little bit like the matrix, you have to see it with your own eyes, IMO.

So, my lame contribution ... ****Threadiverse!**: "Social media, but woven into threads, like Reddit or Forums, not like the chaos of Twitter, but all on the Fediverse so you can find anyone else doing anything else too."

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/29836089

This update implements a lot more user requested features. The main one is the addition of the cross-post badge. The cross-post badge will show up whenever a post has been cross-posted elsewhere. Tapping the badge will show you the other places it was posted to.

This update also makes the bottom nav bar more stable, so hopefully it shouldn't jump around as much.

Please take a look below to see the full list of changes.

Full changelog

  • Add option to filter posts by URL.
  • Add setting to display inline images as links in private messages. Default: on.
  • Add support to show a list of communities a post was cross-posted to.
  • Add setting to toggle whether cross-post badges should be shown.
  • Add setting to configure whether the app delays loading large datasets until the UI is settled. This was always on before. This just adds a setting to turn it off. Default: on.
  • Fix a bug where some images fail to share.
  • Fix more navigation bar issues.

article is paywalled "At Donald Trump's deployment as US President, the tech director behind Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, was among the specially invited along with, among others, Elon Musk, who owns X. After the insertion, dropped Meta's platforms - and deleted X and Tiktok.

She is not the only one leaving the social media. New media like Pixelfed, a pendant to Instagram, has started to emerge, and Illustrator and drawing Line Jensen talking about a "momentum" where people turn their backs on the social media we have known."

yes! I use @liaizon@wake.st for fedi (mastodon) and liaizon@wake.st for email

I would recommend Gancio instead of Mobilizon to be honest. Its also fediverse event software but designed quite different. You can see a pretty active server of it here https://bcn.convoca.la

I ran across this exchange with Ghost CEO John O'Nolan on the Product Hunt announcement:

Levelsio:

Wow great work, do you think payments will start to also go this way with Ghost in the future? As ActivityPub is decentralized, maybe having some decentralized type payments fit into the future

John O'Nolan replied:

yeah! I think crypto is actually starting to get interesting for the first time now, because most people are no longer interested in it. Generally that signals the end of the hype phase and the beginning of practical utility - so I’m very interested in exploring how decentralised payments could work in Ghost in the future. There are all kinds of interesting and legitimate and interesting usecases which Stripe (mostly Visa/Mastercard) refuse to support

Well the part that excites me is that Ghost is one of the biggest newer CMS's started after Wordpress. Ghost is also open source so at least the work they do can be reused into the future (unlike say Threads or Flipboard) and we will suddenly have the ability of a lot of large parts of the web to be able to switch on federation without much effort. Look at all these large entities that use Ghost. Everytime one of these big players joins the fediverse there is this overflow effect onto little community players who might have chosen to use Ghost or WordPress or Flarum etc a long time ago and suddenly without the individual sites having to do much they can grow a whole new audience. So in short, I don't use Ghost and am not personally super excited by the project, but I am excited to see who it ends up bringing in!

Ghost was originally just for blogging, but they recently decided to take on Substack directly so now they do both. I think Buttondown originally came out of Mailchip being shitty and then they were also taking on Substack so I think this move is that if they team up together and also with the fediverse they have a shot at directly competing with Substack (in the VC minded way I assume)
