The use of content warnings on !asklemmy

TL;DR

Use spoilers for NSFW content that is "within reason" and doesn't break Rule 1 like this :

My NSFW warning

My NSFW comment or post content

This will look like (click the triangle) :

::: spoiler My NSFW warning

My NSFW comment or post content

:::

The longer version

The community rules which seem to need to be balanced by the mods most are:

  1. Be nice & have fun, and
  2. NSFW is okay, within reason.

The lemmy.world site rules also state:

We are not a free speech zone. This CoC lays out expected standards of conduct and behavior. You cannot say or post anything that violates these rules or principles and remain a member of our community. You must follow this CoC. If you are looking for something else, please do. It is not here.

The Moderators are not morality or thought police. Moderators are guided by this Code of Conduct. Post what you want, if what you post follows these rules, principles and the goals outlined above. Not every member of the community will appreciate controversial or explicit posts so use Content Warnings very liberally. We use Content Warnings so community members themselves can decide whether they want to see or engage with a post that may be controversial or explicit.

Bullies, trolls and disruptors are not welcome. We will moderate accordingly.

This is a voluntary community. You chose to be here. When you choose to join, you have implied that you agree with this Code of Conduct and will follow it.

Moderators seek to apply these, sometimes conflicting, rules. In doing so we take the balance of probabilities approach. The majority of comments which have been removed to date have been a clear breach of community Rule 1, however sometimes balancing the requirement to be accepting of NSFW content and the requirement for participants to be nice can be difficult. To make this easier, posters and commentors are encouraged to use the spoiler functionality in markdown to create a content warning on asklemmy. Posts that use a spoiler are less likely to be removed when considering whether they are "within reason" NSFW.

To create a spoiler, use three colons ":" followed by the word "spoiler" and then the warning text to create a content warning. Type your comment(s) on the lines below and then three colons at the end to end the spoiler.

Just want to make sure I have that right. He spoke up so now they are making shit up to try and defame him? Do I have this bullshit right?

I oftentimes ship a sauce only sold in my area to family at different elevations. The problem is that the bottle it’s sold in isn’t very secure and many times it’ll break in transit and leak everywhere.

What should I look for when shopping for bottles/containers to use for shipping?

I was thinking today how cool it would be to live in a community that restricted technology to things no later than 2010.

I'm not sure exactly why but I can't think of anything after then that properly enriches my life.

If you could pick a date and create a real community around it, when would you choose?

For example, I don't like Will Ferrell in his typical roles. Oh they just drive me batty.

But. I do love Stranger Than Fiction. It's such a cozy movie.

My favorite book is a little known one called "Black Holes and Timewarps: Einstein's Outrageous Legacy" and I reference it so much that I would really like a copy that's fully mine and searchable, but I also care about the author receiving compensation for the purchase. Where do you get your PDF copies from?

I support free and open source software (FOSS) like VLC, Qbittorrent, Libre Office, Gimp...

But why do people say that it's as secure or more secure than closed source software? From what I understand, closed source software don't disclose their code.

If you want to see the source code of Photoshop, you actually need to work for Adobe. Otherwise, you need to be some kind of freaking retro-engineering expert.

But open source has their code available to the entire world on Github or Gitlab.

Isn't that actually also helping hackers?

so i hiked up to the top of a mountain and saw a really big rock that was kind of spiky and looked really cool, so i climbed up the the top of it, it was really dusty and i didn't think much of it so i brushed away the dust and sat on top of the rock while i ate my lunch, after i finished eating i stood up and looked down between me feet, then i saw it. there was a little dog tag that said: southwest crematorium. i panicked and left in a hurry.

what should i do?

Legislature Building? Around Courthouses? Banks? Public Transit? Schools? Traffic? On the Streets? Should they exist in all of these places, only some of them, or none at all? What's your opinion?

(Btw: I remember my highschool had them, felt kinda creepy since I distrust the school admin, like... even the other places with cameras didn't feel as weird)

Edit: please reserve top level comments for the problems and reply for the Inverted Thinking failure paths below the top level problems so its easier to navigate the responses

Hi everyone! So, my niece is alsmost 6 years old and is very energetic and generaly active as a child. Her parents are thinking of sending her to either Karate or Tae Kwon Do, both for physical and spiritual exercise and development. Which one do you think could fit better for her age and also considering she likes it which is better in the long term?

I have off and on through the years downloaded some things by using magnet links from The Pirate Bay. I've been working on a nice NAS (DS923+) setup that is now running Jellyseerr, Jellyfin, QBittorrent, Radarr, and Sonarr. Everything seems to be linked up, and my media is being hosted a-okay. However, in order to get the Jellyseerr / Radarr / Sonarr bit working, I need proper indexers. I have never really understood this world. I know I need an invite, and I just missed a window with one. I'm trying to figure what is best and how to get in the in-crowd.

Can anybody instruct on how these trackers work when compared to just pulling from TPB. Also, how can one get hooked up with an invite. I didn't want to ask this on my main account for obvious reasons, but I'm sure many people could benefit from learning this too; especially as the media landscape gets worse and worse.
