The use of content warnings on !asklemmy

TL;DR

Use spoilers for NSFW content that is "within reason" and doesn't break Rule 1 like this :

My NSFW warning

My NSFW comment or post content

This will look like (click the triangle) :

::: spoiler My NSFW warning

My NSFW comment or post content

:::

The longer version

The community rules which seem to need to be balanced by the mods most are:

  1. Be nice & have fun, and
  2. NSFW is okay, within reason.

The lemmy.world site rules also state:

We are not a free speech zone. This CoC lays out expected standards of conduct and behavior. You cannot say or post anything that violates these rules or principles and remain a member of our community. You must follow this CoC. If you are looking for something else, please do. It is not here.

The Moderators are not morality or thought police. Moderators are guided by this Code of Conduct. Post what you want, if what you post follows these rules, principles and the goals outlined above. Not every member of the community will appreciate controversial or explicit posts so use Content Warnings very liberally. We use Content Warnings so community members themselves can decide whether they want to see or engage with a post that may be controversial or explicit.

Bullies, trolls and disruptors are not welcome. We will moderate accordingly.

This is a voluntary community. You chose to be here. When you choose to join, you have implied that you agree with this Code of Conduct and will follow it.

Moderators seek to apply these, sometimes conflicting, rules. In doing so we take the balance of probabilities approach. The majority of comments which have been removed to date have been a clear breach of community Rule 1, however sometimes balancing the requirement to be accepting of NSFW content and the requirement for participants to be nice can be difficult. To make this easier, posters and commentors are encouraged to use the spoiler functionality in markdown to create a content warning on asklemmy. Posts that use a spoiler are less likely to be removed when considering whether they are "within reason" NSFW.

To create a spoiler, use three colons ":" followed by the word "spoiler" and then the warning text to create a content warning. Type your comment(s) on the lines below and then three colons at the end to end the spoiler.

As a more unified and cohesive unit of their oeuvre that you feel could be successfull cuz you've downloaded all their stuff and enjoyed it in a unified way that you realize you would actually pay for and want to encourage with your dollar votes

In a crossword or other fun Clue-like puzzle type sense, not anything life-affecting.

What questions would you generally ask

1. Type of key?

The brand is Phillips but they make various types. The type here is (not sure of the correct jargon) without vertical ridges and notches. And both sides of the key are identical.

I've looked at some diagrams of key types and I'm not sure exactly. Is it a "dimple key"? Something else?

2. How to remove broken part from lock?

Location: Door between bedroom and garden.

Situation:

  • Someone bent the key a little, and it was stuck, couldn't get it out. On the inside of the door. At that point still able to lock and unlock from the inside only. Using other key from the outside does nothing, doesn't even turn.

  • I tried gently straightening it but it immediately snapped.

  • Now: can still open and close the door using the handle. Can still, with difficulty, lock and unlock the door (from inside only) by carefully pressing the head of the key against what is in the lock and turning.

A lot of info online for removing broken key blades from locks are for the "traditional" kind of key with vertical ridges and notches.

I have a screwdriver that fits all the screws and I can access all sides of the lock (inside, outside, edge), but I'm not sure if that's relevant. I've tried tweezers but it's too snug.

If I need more tools or equipment, I'll get them tomorrow.

I’ve been using Apple products since 2007. I’ve stuck with the platform through a lot—hardware changes, locked-down software, design regressions, and tools that feel like they were made deliberately harder to use. Lately, that frustration has boiled over, especially with things like the Shortcuts app, where basic actions are buried behind hidden menus and UI behavior seems to change based on factors you can’t even see. Autocorrect is turned on in automation fields. Logic paths vanish if you tap out of order. It’s absurd.

But this isn’t just a complaint about one app. It feels like Apple has shifted from enabling users to controlling them, even when you’re trying to stay fully within the system. What used to be intuitive is now opaque. And despite that, many of us still use Apple products because they’re often better than the alternatives. We’re just tired of pretending everything is fine.

So I’m wondering: is there any interest in a Lemmy community for Apple users who want to talk openly about what’s broken, what could be improved, and how to make things work better? I don’t care whether you’ve been using Macs since the Classic or just got your first iPhone. If you’re frustrated, curious, skeptical, or hopeful, you’re welcome. The goal is a space for real discussion, including ideas, suggestions, and brainstorming. Not for constant complaining, (although it is getting more and more difficult), but something more thoughtful, even if occasionally a little cathartic. Also welcome are any positive discoveries or revelations that the group would appreciate.

If that sounds like something you’d want to be part of, let me know. I’ll start the community if there’s interest. (Also, should I cross-post this somewhere?)

I have heard the term news aggregator too. What do these definitions mean to you? How would you define the category?

I've been wodnering how regulations about not killing games deals with compaines running multi-player servers?

For single player games or games with single player modes it seems easier to implement.

Wouldnt those help with fingerprinting users and opening up additional + unnecessary attack surface that only benefits the company while opening you up to additional tracking or other externalities

So Hi everyone, first of all let me just say sorry if u can't get my writing 😭.

I am from pakistan just turned 21 this june. I got very bad hair problems, I'll be attaching image for you guys to look and give me some manly advice without some social media shit like monoxdile, do this, this serum, this mask, this water and sooo on. So I got grey hairs already like 30 40 percentage of hairs are already grey so along with grey hairs i have got these issues: 1: Grey hairs (30 to 40%) 2: I got rough hairs 3: Started baldness if not wrong from front line. My front line hair are not growing well as you can see in the image. 4: I also got mostly dandruff issue but using shampoo like (selsun or selsum blue) or maybe Head and shoulder can mostly control it. 5: I have noticed that i guess my hair growth has been slowed down pretty well. 6: Mostly hair falls when ever i set hairs with my hands, if shampoo, and comb i got hairs falls like hell sometimes

So i need some real advice from people maybe doctors, one with same issues cured or uncured but not other shits.

How to deal with all this. I got pretty hectic routine going to start like night shift and studies so can't focus on routines. I do gym, i got good diet like very very low fast food consumption.

Exactly what should I use or do to make all these things under control maybe with a shampoo or product ? I do oiling as well like there is a oil named Tara meera oil that is like a pepper on a cut 💀 but u know what i want is to get a good hair not a very very good model like hair. Just good hailrs that i can grow, make them long aand style. That's it.

What will you guys suggest. Anyone with suggestions of any kind are welcome to deliver but try to avoid some fake social media and long care products and routine for hair as I can't really afford, as well as can't really focus and do. Most i can do is to oil hairs once a week, do shampoo or maybe conditioner if it is good for hair and use some easy suppliments like Evion that i take already. Tried 60 biotin tablets once from a company called nutrifactor but I don't think i get any results. So yeah this is it. Really appreciate if u guys can share your experience, your suggestions and things works for you. Thank again ❤️1000039095100003909010000390891000039088

Hello. I am trying to find a food grade spigot that doesn't have silicone and EPDM gaskets inside. I suppose the outer gaskets can be replaced, but the O-rings can be a pain. I tried searching the web and nothing came up. So, is there a spigot that uses natural rubber or any other biodegradable material for its gaskets? Thank you in advance for any response and sorry if I posted this in the wrong "sub-lemmy".

Original question by @ephrin@sh.itjust.works

Freedom degrees. Roughly -13° or 38° if you live in the sane parts of the world.

I’d pick triple digits, mostly because I’ve lived in places that routinely hit 100° in the summer, and I hate shoveling snow.

I had just had a friendly and fun dinner with some Cuban VIPs because of a work thing. After dinner I was supposed to take a picture of the US and Cuban group together.

I tried to tell everyone "Say 'Cheese'" because I knew it would be odd but interesting to the Spanish speakers who were unfamiliar with American ways, but I don't speak Spanish very well.

I said, "Hablo Queso," which means 'I speak cheese.'

Edit: Please know that I am reading and appreciating every one of your responses. Even if I do not reply to you, I appreciate your time and want the best for you all. Thank you, guys.

I've always been the "crazy one" in any given scenario. I have been this way my whole life. Even as a child I was crazy. I would get upset and cry loudly for hours but my siblings would not. I caused problems at home for my family, especially for my mom who didn't know what to do with me. I did this as an older child, not normal toddler tantrum age. I was old enough to "know better". I did it my whole childhood.

For the most part in life, I have been able to be a productive member of society. The issues I would cause were limited to my home life and I mostly kept to myself. I sometimes cause issues by being a crazy person to my online friends, but at least that never spilled over into the "real world".

But now in my 30s I am causing such issues at work. I asked for some psych meds to be prescribed to me in March and have been taking them ever since. Doesn't seem to do anything.

I seem to get more frequent and strong negative emotions than the general population. I have difficulty controlling these, especially when I feel like someone is being mean or unfair to me or others. I think I am genetically predisposed to be this way, as my dad was a crazy person when I was growing up (but he has always been nice to me...he was only abusive to my mom). He had "episodes" too the same way I do, except his were malicious to others in nature. My older brother also has claimed to have bipolar disorder which supposedly has a genetic component.

I have spoken to mental health professionals and have been assessed for various things. I do not have bipolar disorder, autism, or OCD per mental health professionals. I tried to bring up keywords like "emotional dysregulation" to them. There seems to be no good explanation for why I am insane. I have wondered if maybe I have borderline personality disorder but have not inquired to be assessed for that one. I do not seem to exhibit the "risk taking" behaviors that are core to borderline personality disorder though.

I get frustrated that I am always the only one who is crazy and no one else is like me.

But I know there are other crazy people out there. Please, tell me your stories. How do you deal with life? How do you deal with always being different than others and feeling negative things more strongly? How do you handle things? How do you handle being and feeling alone in the way that you are? How do you handle the emotional frustration?

If this is inappropriate for here, I apologize. I just want to hear how others have managed to handle life despite this isolating "disability". I want to hear your stories. I want to gain wisdom from all of you. Thank you.

I want to buy a tshirt that features the “Catholic saint” style Luigi art, but I don’t want to support some shitty t-shirt shill in the process. Ideally I would like to buy from somewhere that will donate a portion of the proceeds to his legal fund.

Failing that, I’d like to at least support the original artist. Pic included for reference. Yes I know, terrible resolution - Google sucks now, it can’t be helped.

I'm doing some conlanging for a book and I'm having trouble finding the word for how we can take a verb, add -er at the end, and get a word for a person who does that thing. For example, a driver is someone who drives, a commander is someone who commands, a lawyer is someone who laws, and a finger is someone who fings. I am having trouble finding out how other languages noun their verbs in this way since I don't know what this thing is called. Pls halp.

Impossible to quantify "hard use", but they've seen some miles. I'm only 145lbs. and the tread is nearly gone, surprising for me. Guess I worked 'em out?

Here's the pair I bought, thinking on buying another:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WHTSJF4?psc=1

They're still tough, nothing unraveling, zippers still tough, original laces, sole not peeling anywhere, not in the slightest. Only reason they need replacing is that the left heel kinda kicked out sideways. Noticed it made my leg slightly sore today, and slight problems become big problems in the boondocks.

Should I throw more money at something tougher? Is 4-years acceptable bang for the buck? These fit so perfectly I'm afraid to gamble on another brand. LOL, unless Sketchers comes out with combat boots!

One other note if you have a recommendation: I need the high tops. Between snakes, thorns, etc., I want tall boots.

EDIT: ONE other note if you have an alternative: They're weird in that they're warm enough into the 30s(F), cool enough to march in the 90s(F). Not sure what I'd be looking for to get that, no idea how it works.
