Is this a boomer comic? Is this mocking inclusivity, or is it just not funny...or both.

[-] Bongles@lemm.ee 17 points 1 year ago

War and Peas isn't very funny normally, so it's probably that.

Funny night not be the right word but they are pretty enjoyable

Pirates were generally pretty inclusive, progressively so. I don't think it's mocking, it's just silly.

Did they put the flags up in response or is this supposed to imply some kind of irony? I don't get it.

[-] fahfahfahfah@lemmy.billiam.net 41 points 1 year ago

It’s supposed to show that they’re tolerant pirates

[-] FiniteBanjo@lemmy.today 26 points 1 year ago

Yeah but isn't that a bit nonsequitur to the conversation about pirates being against ableism? You can be tolerant even if you don't have skin in the game, and vice versa, and the stances aren't particularly humourous to me if that is in fact the joke "haha these 1600s pirates have complex political belief systems."

They may still pillage and murder, but in a non-discriminatory fashion.

I've heard of women who were pirate captains, ex-slaves who were pirate captains, gay pirate captains, and pirate captains of pretty much all races...

...so yeah, pirates, surprisingly open work place.

I think they were also known to attack privateers, who were state authorised pirates run by the monarchies and colonial governments of the world.

It has been pointed out that pirates are a symbol of inclusivity. If you imagine a pirate, chances are they have a disability, typically from an occupational injury (a missing eye, hand or leg), and yet they kick ass and strike fear into the establishment.

Sorry, it's sloppy (please don't edit out the artist; you can edit out me, though)
