Quoting the text for easier read to everyone:

The desire to exclusively engage with media and art made by "unproblematic" artists is a direct result of Americans viewing media consumption as an inherently political act because that is the supreme promise of Western prosperity and the religion of consumerism, and that's because it's seemingly all that's left. We've been stripped and socialized out of any real political energy and agency. Our ability to consume is the only thing remaining that's "ours" in late capitalism, and as a result it's become a stand-in for (or perhaps the sole defining quality of) every aspect of being alive today - consuming is activism, it's love, it's thinking, it's sex, it's fill in the blank. When the act of consuming is all you have left and indeed the only thing society tells you is valuable and meaningful, the act must necessarily be a moral one, which is why people send themselves down manic spirals deciding what, who is "problematic" or not, because for us the stakes are that high now.

Update : I am permanently banned from the r/boringdystopia subreddit becaUse TheY wArNEd m MuLtIPlE TiMeS

Okay so I would give you a link, but here’s why I’m not: self promotion-always gota be careful with that. 2 there is actually a school of thought that says a few people looking something up is as good if not better than several people clicking a link.-especially considering the not insignificant overlap there is between our communities just by the nature of the thing.

M yes and Lemmy links. How do they even work. I don’t know :D

Oh and our spots are #16 and #17 , for Lemmy.World , sorted by monthly activity . Is p cool. On Reddit we may not see eye to eye but on here we do be having tippy toes 😅

Ok this one is a bit out there, so stick with me. For the unitiated, tumblr is the depressed gay artists website that yahoo drove into the ground by banning porn [its core content creators] sexy starving artists etc etc. ive been on there like, more than 10 years, and im finally getting around to really scoping the place out. In the course of creating this space here on lemmy, the thought occurred: 'hey, these artists are in a rough spot, id love to commission work from them, have a backlog of stuff to do, but also I am in a very similar situation.' ... 'idea, find the artists that don't know what to draw, and just tell them the things id like to commission art of'. so that is how i got to perusing the #Art Block, tag on my favorite microblogging site. 10/10 can recommend.

TLDR what if we, go to the depressed gay artists site, and cheer them up a bit or something. Do you think they will drop art like a side quest? Yes 100% that is exactly how it works anyone can do it.

hmm..perhaps just pitching tumblr here a bit. its pretty straightforward. use reblogs like how you would likes and likes how you would bookmarks. talk to people if you want, #you can talk in the tags, #like this. make sure to change your profile picture right away. there is a bot problem. oh and be liberal with the block button. see aforementioned bot problem.

OK, so granted it’s not necessarily cool. It is just a normal link. But like seriously you know it’s it’s always an option to professionalize the research aspect.

Okay, so this is actually really interesting. It gets into how in the US, when we talk about slavery, we are specifically talking about chattel slavery as it was practiced in the Americas. And there’s actually a pretty strong argument that American chattel slavery is, if not unique in world history, it is more aberrant than other force labor systems throughout world history.

Absolutely mass incarceration, and the force labor system that goes along with it are incredibly distinct from American style chattel slavery, but this is because they’re arguably more in line with what slavery, distinct from chattel slavery, ‘usually’ meant. Basing a forced labor system off of race is more or less a modern phenomenon . There’s some nuance, but slave codes basically make up the core of available written records on the development of race as a cultural concept. [big ol’ FOR THE WEST label here]

That was the fucking point of all this, right ? Like ‘how dare the poors slip through some material change in conditions through gov power’. ‘We’ll show them’ and then they did all of this

Yes, but idk if that's a death call for it, i feel like its not so bad for DnD characters. That's a community that has been rather accepting of AI generated images, as I understand, because they don't take away from artists' commissions and actually expand the pool of people interested in commissioning art for roleplaying.

That’s great. I’m really glad to hear it. It’s not that they don’t exist. It’s that they are subject to violence under the law.

they define it in the paper, its not having to use more than 50% of your income for housing.

counterpoint, its not either or. this is a false dichotomy the democrats created and maintain as a rhetorical device to silence dissent. i will never vote for joe biden. ill vote for.., a couple of democrats down ballot. and that is the extent of my interaction with the legitimate systems of democracy in the US. if you dont live in a swing state, the presidential race is, effectively, not real for you. this is a basic tenant of "american electoral politics" , or as I like to call it, a tenant of US Authoritarianism

yea or maybe they read far enough down the bbc article to see the string of historical examples. or maybe just the general context of this being published 2 years ago, and the criminalization of miscarriage has gotten way more prevalent. disingenuous af
