This is a program that existed for a very long time.

The problem with it is when it was set up, some idiot put the loan companies in charge. And thru intentional incompetence most people didn't get forgiveness when they should and the interest kept climbing for years.

Biden had us pay the illegally charged interest rather than fight it.

So we drastically overpaid for forgiveness borrowers should have had long ago.

It's good they finally got it, but so many more could have been forgiven for the same amount of money if we didn't pay all that extra interest.

John Oliver did an episode on it a couple months ago, maybe last season?

Bandai Namco has reportedly turned to the unspoken Japanese tradition of layoff-by-boredom by stuffing unwanted employees into oidashi beya, or "expulsion rooms."

Employees banished reassigned to oidashi beya are left to do nothing, or given menial tasks at best.

Ever since I watched Silicon Valley I'ved dreamed of being oidashi beya'd.

Like, you're just gonna give me zero work and a room to nap in for 8 hours along with a salary?

Fucking sold man. Let me live that Bighead life, dude is a nihilist spirit animal.

I’m trying to understand why they(we) are such a close ally

You won't like Biden's answer...

Biden has partly credited his pro-Israel world view to his father, who insisted following World War Two and the Nazi Holocaust there was no doubt of the justness of establishing Israel as a Jewish homeland in 1948.

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/i-am-zionist-how-joe-bidens-lifelong-bond-with-israel-shapes-war-policy-2023-10-21/

He's said multiple times there is no line Israel could cross that would result in any less support from him.

He's not operating on any kind of logic, in his eyes Israel = good, and that's as deep as he will ever think of it.

There's not exactly a lot that is humane about our prison system...

Well maybe, just maybe, you get the '08 me

Fresh out the county feeling crazy

No meds in eight months feeling turnt, don't play me

-King Fantastic

We throw people with mental health issues in jail with no meds for months pending trial then drop charges on the daily. Just release them on the streets with no money or way to feed themselves, let alone see a doctor and get back on meds.

I'm not saying we can't fix one thing if we don't fix everything, just that prison reform should be a much bigger topic than it is.

We ain't reforming prisoners, our justice system just produces more criminals. It's hard enough to get a job and a place to live, imagine if you had to do it with a felony, and you had 8 hours to solve it. It's starve or do more crime.

Shit isn't going to fix itself.

Baier later asked Harris if she supports “using taxpayer dollars to help prison inmates or detained illegal aliens to transition to another gender.” The question comes after a 2019 questionnaire filled out by Harris came to light. Her responses, which she gave while serving in the Senate, indicated she supported taxes being used to fund gender-affirming care for federal prisoners and detained immigrants.

Harris responded to Baier by pointing out that incarcerated people received gender-affirming healthcare under her opponent, Donald Trump.

“I will follow the law, and it’s a law that Donald Trump actually followed, you’re probably familiar with it now,” Harris said. “It’s a public report that under Donald Trump’s administration, these surgeries were available on a medical necessity basis to people in the federal prison system.”

One of the few times comparing herself to trump was a good idea.

Still would like her to say she'll follow the Leahy Law tho

You agree the difference should be enough to make you vote Democrat, yet you don’t. Why?

What?

I've voted D for literal decades, exactly one of those times I was voting for someone and not against R.

And the only reason I haven't already voted D, is Im in the blue part of a red state and they like to play games with mail ins.

I'm talking about how best to reach those potential voters so Kamala doesn't fuck it up.

So if you want to yell at someone till they vote, it's not me. I literally can't vote for Kamala anymore than I already am. Just one vote homie.

I don't think your approach will actually help, but I'm not going to stop you or discourage you from what you think will help stop Trump.

And I'd appreciate it if you dont try and stop progressices from trying to pull Kamala left to meet voters.

Maybe your way is faster. Maybe my way is.

But I feel like the best bet is both us doing it, and the worst bet is us both stopping to have a slap fight with each other.

Or you could double down on arguing, I'd just block you tho, trump is to dangerous to be wasting time with that.

Yeah, I never heard of that and I was paying attention during that time.

He kind of just came out of nowhere and everyone loved him because he wore hoodies?

I remember he was on Colbert once talking about it, and he just immediately rubbed me as an asshole, but that was probably 2023, a year or so post stroke.

[-] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago

It's not the benefit of the doubt.

If a stroke changes you it changes you. If it makes you an asshole, it's not just ok to be an asshole.

Every other asshole also has a reason to be an asshole, recency doesn't matter.

But I legitimately don't know if he took AIPAC money in the primary before the stroke. If he did, then yeah, he was already an asshole before the stroke. Doesn't mean a stroke couldn't make him a more blatant asshole. Lack of impulse control is also a common symptom, people lose their filter and that's rarely a positive thing.

It's not excusing it, but we need to understand it so we learn how to deal with it and hopefully prevent the next person from being an asshole.

You think CTE causes people to become assholes?

A stroke like Fetterman's often produces even larger personality changes. Sometimes it's for the better, but often it tends to effect the forebrain where things like empathy and critical thinking happen. If it gets other parts in the hind brain that's where you get the other stereotypical stroke symptoms of slurring speech and poor muscle control.

Fettermen wasn't perfect, but he wasn't this huge of an asshole before the stroke

It doesn't excuse any of his shit behavior either. I just always think "why" is an important question when talking about someone's behavior. Ironically enough when it happened Republicans called for him to resign and Dems blindly defended him. After the personality changes he's Republicans favorite Dem and most of his own party hates him.

I wouldn't be surprised if he runs as a Republican next election.

Edit:

Guess I should have "more of an asshole".

Criticizing someone for being a DA alone makes zero sense.

Most are bags of shit. But if only bags of shit take the job, nothing gets better.

There's lots of valid criticisms of Kamala that talking about may result in real change to her platform. Not only helping stop trump but ensuring we have a good president instead

Lol, she's a cop

Isn't helping anything.

[-] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 8 points 22 hours ago

Not just denied.

If they had denied it then, hey, that's their prerogative, the party is a private entity that can do whatever the fuck they want.

What was fucked is they strung protestors along telling them they'd get to speak, then pulled out at the last second when there wasn't enough time to react.

If they weren't going to let them speak, they should have said it.

But bald faced lying to avoid the optics of a protest is billshit, and why people don't trust Kamala. She shot herself in the foot and then got mad her boot has a hole in it.

Monopoly started out to show that capitalism is based on luck and opportunity, and that the end result is one person owning everything.

The whole process is miserable and even when you win you have to sit thru a prolonged ending where you slowly drain every last resource from you friends and family.

It's not a bad game, they just overestimated how well Americans can pick up irony.

Originally called "The Landlord's Game" Parker Brothers changed it to something less obviously terrible in the run up to the great depression.

I don't know if Far Side is really that deep but:

The only way to win is to not play

Is literally the point the game tries to beat over family's heads for hours at a time.

India leads the world in generating plastic pollution, producing 10.2 million tons a year (9.3 million metric tons), far more than double the next big-polluting nations, Nigeria and Indonesia. China, often villainized for pollution, ranks fourth but is making tremendous strides in reducing waste, Velis said. Other top plastic polluters are Pakistan, Bangladesh, Russia and Brazil. Those eight nations are responsible for more than half of the globe’s plastic pollution, according to the study’s data.

The United States ranks 90th in plastic pollution with more than 52,500 tons (47,600 metric tons) and the United Kingdom ranks 135th with nearly 5,100 tons (4,600 metric tons), according to the study.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration last week set a hearing date to take comment on the proposed historic change in federal drug policy for Dec. 2.

The hearing date means a final decision could well come in the next administration. While it’s possible it could precede the end of President Joe Biden’s term, issuing it before Inauguration Day “would be pretty expedited,” said cannabis lawyer Brian Vicente.

The Democratic presidential nominee will be joined by her running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz in an interview with CNN anchor Dana Bash in Savannah, Georgia. The interview will air Thursday at 9 p.m. Eastern time.
