Yeah, that'd be about the only way.. then with the food rations going to NKs war effort, the northern populations would all-but starve.. Which is happening more than it should in that country, already.

The Kim family can't go extinct fast enough. What wretched people.

[-] foodandart@lemmy.zip 3 points 10 hours ago

Would the NK army have the food for a fight? Do they have the physical size and stamina for such a gambit? I'd be surprised if their army has the drive to give it their all in a battle.

Have been reading for at least 20 years about how the NK population has a decidedly shorter and smaller stature now, after decades of food scarcity.

Apparently as far back as the mid-00's it affected the standards for conscription in the NK army. Not sure on that, but it would make sense.

It's hard to know actually, there's tons of propaganda on both sides, (and God knows, the Kim regime certainly won't offer up actual demographic information of that nature which is truthful) but from the photos I've seen, the NK soldiers look awfully small compared to the SK soldiers.

[-] foodandart@lemmy.zip 14 points 12 hours ago

..More likely, NK invades SK ..

Yeaaaahh. I don't see that one happening. South Korea is on point with a military response that would be the end of North Korea. Have friends that are Korean and they say the military there does not fuck around. Even now, with the public perception of the boy bands and k-pop meaning the country's gone soft.. It's window dressing, and why the Kim family has NOT launched an invasion.

Some paper shipped across the country and shoved through my letterbox is not going to influence my decision AT ALL.

Oh, you and I are identical in that respect. Hate people trying to sell me shit. Am firmly from the "Don't call us, we'll call you.." department.

God's honest, in my late 20's I made the decision to turn my head when ads came on the TV, (refused to view them at all) and by the late 90's when high speed internet rolled out, we cut the cord.

No cable TV by 1999. Fully gone.

Within a few years, I'd found out how to use a hosts file (Dan Pollock's - it's still available) and blocked as much of the ad content I could on the computer. Now I'm rolling with uBO. (and still have Dan's hosts file enabled within it.)

My only exception is for food.

Where I live, we get lots of local grocery store flyers that are still printed on heavyweight newsprint so I'll often check out the produce sections or meat specials.. but that's about it.

Then those go into a stack that either goes to recycling or off to the schools or shops that use the paper - gladly - to pack merchandise for shipping. (bubble wrap has gotten ridiculously priced in the last few years)

The rest gets converted into notepaper or recycled.

[-] foodandart@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

Well, no.. but why refuse junk mail?

That's a resource being sent to you.

It's ok to work out how to use it. Those junk flyers make great barbecue starters, birdcage or catbox liners, packing for when you ship an item, the unprinted backsides of the letters are good to use for shopping lists and small to do notes..

Local grade schools can sometime use the junk mail newsprint for kids arts classes when they have paper mache projects (I've called to ask if they have needs of anything and ended up dropping off reams of that to my nearby school's art teacher..)

The rest of it goes straight away into a dedicated paper recycling bin.

(I even take those ubiquitous plastic shopping bags to the Walmart drop off bins for them.)

Conveience is overrated and it fosters short-sightedness.

Don't be caugt up in the whizz-bang of energy dependency. In a power generation crisis situation the trivial stuff will be lost.

Texting links to TikTok of some cat jumping into a bird feeder isn't gonna survive. Sending your grandparents a snail-mail letter describing what you're doing just might.

When you have less life left in front of you, making a mark or leaving a mark on the world behind you takes on a different hue. EVERYONE - even you, will get to that point.

It's basic human nature.

Flip phones with voice and text only - no data - plans put a wrench in the whole internet portal thing.

Unless of course it's law to own a mobile device.

[-] foodandart@lemmy.zip 23 points 3 days ago

This will last as long as reliable electricity and internet access does.

Thing is, it's going to create a historical hole in future archeological studies of this era, as the messages within digital devices are ephemral. Texts of today, unlike handwritten letters stand a slim chance of being a tangible artifact in 200 years.

Que sera..

Welp, I'll be forwarding this to the people I know that send in their votes by mail, to make sure they get the ballots mailed in within a few days of getting them.

More to the point, I wonder how many MAGA farts will see their ballots tossed because of this? MOST of the older conservative voters I know use mail in ballots.

Who's got the popcorn?

NGL, in a pinch get a good nature sound app and pop in the earbuds and just crash out on the sofa and listen.

I have been using one called Naturespace for a decade and it's glorious. Best track is called The Imaginarium. Whoa.

This guy's got the loudest feet in the industry. Just a guy and a guitar and two big tapping feet. Been playing since the early 70's. Definitely a fantastic live show, have seen him multiple times. If you live on the east coast of the US and he's playing nearby, go see him perform. Can't recommend it enough.

Enjoy!

One of the more underrated Eurythmics albums. Was overlooked at the time it was released as it was a film soundtrack and contains instrumentals, (so that kinda made it less a "real" Eurythmics album than a non-soundtrack record, which is bullshit but there it was) and a few of the tracks like Julia and For the Love of Big Brother are hauntng examples of the range that Annie Lennox has. The track Sexcrime got modest radio airplay, but the rest of the songs were ignored, which was a shame.

Enjoy!

If you ever want to dip into a vast trove of songs, this guy's stuff is it. Straight up, one of Australia's Best Kept Musical Secrets and if you ever get a chance to see him live, do it. (I've done so twice) He's got one of the tightest bands you'll ever hear. Amazing songwriter, awesome human. One of my all-time faves.

Enjoy!

Am really satisfied with the ideas I'm coming up with. I did the Atlas Path and the Artemis Quest and got to the center of the galaxty and to Hilbert Dimension.

Now I'm in full creative mode, seeing what ideas I can come up with.

Would love to share. Are there any other Travellers out here that may want to visit my creations and give me some feedback?

The only glitch building I do is with the colors, not scale, as I'm using an xbox controller on my PC.

I do have the full collection of parts since I am using Goatfungus's Save File Editor and got all the QS goodies.

I discovered Anti-Atlas through the Oedipus Project - a site run by a former DJ and music director at WBCN 104.1 out of Boston.

Oedi's been my musical touchstone since 1979 when I was in High School. Dude's got great musical taste and a keen ear for the good stuff.. which I will bring and share here.

Enjoy!

This is one of my all-time favorite artists.

Amon Tobin. He's scary good and approaches sound like a chef approaches flavors and textures. Sometimes crunchy, sometimes sweet. Always delicious

Yes, his music is an acquired taste, and he releases under many different names depending on the music.

Two Fingers is his club-mix music persona..

Enjoy!
