Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. Israel used to participate in the AFC and Asian Games (they played against other US puppet regimes like Iran, South Vietnam, South Korea and Taiwan). But during the early 1970's they were expelled.

Israel was part of the Asian Games Federation and participated in the games from 1954 through 1974. In 1981 the Asian Games Federation was organized as the Olympic Council of Asia and for political reasons Israel was excluded. Following this, in 1982, it was voted on to permanently ban Israel from the Asian Games.

Israel was kicked out of the Asian Games and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for political reasons, primarily due to the opposition of Arab nations and other countries in Asia. Israel participated in the Asian Games from 1954 to 1974. After a vote in 1974, Israel was expelled from the AFC, a decision driven by political tensions with Arab nations. Israel eventually joined the European Football Union (UEFA) in 1994.

The incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. near East 41st Avenue and Fraser Street, where the Lapu Lapu Day Block Party was taking place.

Putang ina. For the culprit, I'd have him removed by mod, but I think another lesson is that they should rlly set up rough roadblocks for this area to avoid people like that.

[-] niph@hexbear.net 21 points 2 days ago

There were barriers at the event, they had been moved as part of normal procedures to let vehicles resupplying food trucks into the street.

Friend of mine lives right on the block where it happened, heard screams and saw the aftermath out his window.

Apple aims to source all US iPhones from India in pivot away from China

Apple plans to shift the assembly of all US-sold iPhones to India as soon as next year, according to people familiar with the matter, as President Donald Trump’s trade war forces the tech giant to pivot away from China.

Only the assembly stage is being moved to India, internal components will still be manufactured in China

[-] Coolkidbozzy@hexbear.net 46 points 3 days ago

as soon as next year

HEAVILY DOUBT this. You can't just double an enormous number of assembly lines without a lot more infrastructure, new engineers and technicians, adequately training them, time to build and validate the lines, etc. That is a multi-year project

[-] marxisthayaca@hexbear.net 12 points 2 days ago

India and Pakistan might also turn themselves into nuclear waste, in a year, at the rate this shit is going.

[-] jackmaoist@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago

Apple has already moved a lot of the assembling process to India because of the Indian government's own taxes for imports and that labour in India is far cheaper. They can use that to supply Americans.

Didn't they try to start pivoting to India years ago and found that the quality control standards were really hard to maintain because of the difference in working conditions and culture?

[-] Mardoniush@hexbear.net 29 points 3 days ago

I predict "assembly" will amount to bolting the case on.

What are the predicted side effects of this?

[-] immuredanchorite@hexbear.net 47 points 3 days ago

I don’t think it will actually happen. They have been saying for some time that it would take at least a decade to move the supply chain out of china- and I think that is an overly optimistic one given that they are probably basing their predictions off of how things went in china, where they are used to effective state support and a highly educated workforce. … there are other issues, like how all of the glass utilized in smartphones is made by like, one factory/company in china…. China could also just utilize the infrastructure there to sell what is effectively the iphone but without the rentier rates charged by apple… that isn’t even getting into the mineral resources smartphones require- like rare earth metals that china controls the production of

idk, maybe they are saying that to get trump off of their back, or help him save face… and/or ease skittish investors

[-] TransWalterKronkite@hexbear.net 38 points 3 days ago

All components and electronics of the iPhone will still be manufactured in China, only the assembly stage for US bound phones will be moved to India, which should be an easy process

[-] immuredanchorite@hexbear.net 23 points 3 days ago

so it sounds like they want to make a distinction without a difference.. but china and the us may both be upset- the us for having 100% of its parts manufactured in china still… china for trying to “leave china” to avoid tariffs… the cost of moving assembly might still be expensive and take time to occur. anything that takes more than a few business cycles, let alone 4 years when the political situation could change. apple has deep pockets from all the chinese labor they have exploited, so maybe they could get away with that, but what would it even accomplish?

[-] TransWalterKronkite@hexbear.net 32 points 3 days ago

On the price/tariff side of things Apple expects assembly will cost around 5%-10% more compared to china, so iPhone for USA prices will rise. All of this may not actually let iPhones avoid tariffs, as most of the parts inside will still be manufactured in China.

China has warned against companies and countries avoiding China due to Trump's tariffs, but how the CPC will respond, if it all, is unknown

Some news from the Kursk front. Russian forces fully liberated the Kursk oblast border areas today. Russia confirmed that some DPRK troops (including elite Special Operations Forces) participated in the Kursk border area’s liberation.

Well guess some of them did fight, though that was never really in doubt, more the idea that they got sent into Ukraine. Seems like they performed well, would love some actual combat footage, but I can understand why the DPRK would be hesitant to have those released.

Rally attended by over 250000 people against the Lai regime:

The black signs they're holding are pretty cringe (It says "Oppose green (color of the DPP) communism. Fight against dictatorship"), but I skipped through the livestream and saw Han Kuo-yu made a speech about how Taiwan can't fall into the trap of becoming the next Ukraine. And this isn't the first major political rally against the Lai regime either.

Anyways, we need to keep calm and trust the plan.

[-] Leegh@hexbear.net 17 points 2 days ago

There’s just something very funny about an anti-DPP protest accusing the government of being Communist when the CPC openly hates the DPP for being a US lap dog, while simultaneously many KMT officials and supporters in the military keep taking bribes from the CPC, and in some cases, go on trips to mainland China to have friendly exchanges with CPC officials.

le-monke Yesterday was Carnation Day in Portugal. I'm gonna pull a mainstream media and instead of talking about the thousands of people who marched down Liberty Avenue to celebrate, I'm going to focus only on a far-right protest that happened the same day and got pretty dramatic.

So a bunch of far-right groupings, including a small but old far-right party called "Ergue-te" (which means "Rise up") scheduled a protest that would happen at the Martim Moniz plaza where they would march there and roast a pig, literally. Now, a lot of immigrants hang out and live there including from muslim countries so obviously this is supposed to be a provocation but, just to explain how dumb this is, if someone here is ever in Lisbon check out the plaza, it's pretty much just a tourist spot, mostly because it's outside a metro station and there are a lot foreign food restaurants around it, but aside from some subcontinent dudes hanging out in the garden just chilling, it's really not that different from most of Lisbon and honestly it's a place I always recommend to people who visit. So the whole thing is the far-right playing up xenophobic sentiments around people specifically from that region of the world, a lot of which do immigrate to Portugal for seasonal and other low-wage work.

So, because they asked for permission to protest the police had to evaluate whether they could do so safely so that the mayor's office could approve it. At first, the police gave the ok, then when obviously they realized there would be a bunch of counter protests they backed out and gave the "Not ok", so the Mayor unauthorized the protest. Now if this had been the far-right Chega party organizing this protest, that would be the end of it, they'd stick to yelling about how the government doesn't even let you publicly roast a pig, they're pretty politically astute unfortunately.

But these guys are extra crazy so they decided to hold the protest anyway, and in a rare sight, after pretty clearly provoking both the counter-protestors AND the police who were there to keep the counter-protestors from caving their heads in, well...

(CW: Police violence) Some got smacked, some got detained and some got arrested.

(CW: Hog violence) To show how blatant this thing was, here's a clip of one of these guys caught on camera, pretty clearly infiltrating the counter-protest to start a fight and rile everybody up.

A state of emergency will be declared in Bandar Abbas due to the possible spread of hazardous substances due to the fire in Shahid Rajaee Port. Saudi Foreign Ministry: 'Saudi Arabia is willing to provide any help or assistance that Iran may need'

It is likely that large amounts of sulfur have been released into the air, causing difficulties breathing, irritation to eyes, and inflammation of the lungs. 8 people confirmed dead so far. The Minister of Roads, Farzaneh Sadeq, visited the site of the fires. The chief of the local firefighting department complains they don't have enough equipment to extinguish the fire.

The situation is very bad. The fire is spreading to other areas of the port, including areas with flammable containers, and more explosions are likely to happen. The order has been issued to completely evacuate the entire port and all its surrounding facilities.
