Geeez these comments guys...

So even if you like or dislike pewdiepie. I think him showing of Linux is good. Getting more people to realize Linux exist and is a viable alternative to Windows or Mac is a good thing.

Assholes being called out for being assholes is a good thing.

[-] zulfiqaramer@lemmings.world 3 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

I agree. As more regular people use Linux, it will become more obvious who the gatekeeping losers are and why they should be routinely ignored.

"Think different" to me is "don't let the people chronically on internet forums dictate your every move."

Lol the pirate party in the country I’m from was co opted by Nazis

[-] MBech@feddit.dk 7 points 4 hours ago

Not trying to be a dick, i simply don't know, but what does that have to do with the post and pewdiepie?

[-] Thebigguy@lemmy.ml 6 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Well in the post the OP stated that Pewdiepie was a supporter of the pirate party as if this negated any claims to him being right wing. I just wanted to point out that the pirate party can have right wing elements as was the case here.

Edit I’m not trying to be a dick but what did adding that statement at the bottom of the post have to do with pewdiepie using Linux?

We live in a fascist society. People will defend white supremacy by default.

[-] sunbeam60@lemmy.one 23 points 8 hours ago

I have a feeling this thread won’t be about Linux.

[-] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 5 points 4 hours ago

Reading this thread, I am glad I never said a naughty word in my life ever.

[-] ThermonuclearEgg@hexbear.net 7 points 3 hours ago

I can't tell if you're being genuine or not, but there is a difference between using a swear word ever and being a hateful bigot and using slurs against marginalized groups

[-] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml -1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Yes I never did that ever. I only said heck once.

[-] user607674@lemm.ee 6 points 1 hour ago

Defending the use of racial slurs as swear words definitely doesn't make you look like a weird fucking loser man, keep it up. You're fighting the good fight.

[-] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 0 points 56 minutes ago

Trying to hammer on a one time thing from a decade ago which the person has apologized for and has not reoffended is awesome. You are saving humanity.

[-] KrasMazov@lemmygrad.ml 1 points 3 minutes ago

Except PewDiePie is not that. Sure he apologized for saying the N word hard-r. But then proceeded to create a whole racist campaign against India in the name of fighting the corpo T-Series where he made one of the most racist songs I've ever heard.

Then there's the whole antisemitic Fiverr thing where if he genuinely did it to prove that any heinous shit could happen there, he still didn't need to do it that way.

Then there's Musk and Shapiro in his channel.

Then there's the Nazis in his audience.

Then you have the bunch of incel and machist memes he reacted and laughed too constantly in his channel.

Then you have that he has gone on record saying more than once that he's favorite author is the Japanese fascist Yukio Mishima.

And to top it all off you have the ChristChurch shooter shouting him out.

PewDiePie has been a right wing fucker that has eased a shit ton of young people into the alt-right pipeline for years. The fact that people keep excusing him is just fucked up to no end.

Watch the video The PewDiePiepeline on YouTube.

[-] Pirata@lemm.ee 1 points 2 hours ago

Did he ever apologize for it, though?

[-] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 0 points 1 hour ago

Yes it was a whole thing back in the day about Youtuber apology videos.

[-] Sunny@slrpnk.net 6 points 6 hours ago

I for one am very happy to see! He is a great influence to a lot of people and showing that Linux isn't scary will boost numbers by a solid amount ✌️

[-] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 1 points 26 minutes ago

Let's call it "big" influence , maybe?

[-] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 hour ago

He is a great influence to a lot of people

lmao

Hyprland soon to be known as "the Nazi OS" if it keeps getting shown off by a well known swedish neo Nazi

[-] jimmy90@lemmy.world 50 points 10 hours ago

dropping pewds in ml and getting upvotes wasn't on mine

[-] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 1 hour ago

The whiteness of these people shows through in weird ways.

[-] domi@lemmy.secnd.me 3 points 7 hours ago

Does Hyprland work well for gaming compared to KDE? Can it do HDR, VRR and so on?

Always wanted to try a tiling WM but was afraid of losing features.

[-] snaggen@programming.dev 1 points 48 minutes ago

Never tried hyperland, but if you want tiling, I think COSMIC is a very user friendly tiling de. I don't think they do HDR yet though, but it is still in alpha.

[-] mat@linux.community 30 points 13 hours ago

Awesome! I hope he will help share this with more folks, the friends who I've talked into finally giving modern non-Ubuntu Linux a shot love it, but there's a lot of work to get over the damaged image created by the countless "linux user installing a browser" memes. I'm sure someone with his reach can help though :)

[-] mat@linux.community 7 points 9 hours ago

Found out just now he made a video about it and explained his actual experience using it, it's really cool! Glad to see more folks sharing this stuff.

I managed to avoid finding out who or what PewDiePie is back when he was a meme and I have no intention of finding out now

[-] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 44 points 16 hours ago

I've never wanted to use it less now tbh

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).

Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.
