  • Brush: RazoRock F-400 34 mm
  • Razor: RazoRock Cyber Medium w/ Superknurl handle
  • Blade: BIC Chrome Platinum
  • Lather: Wholly Kaw - Transition
  • Post-Shave: Lavera Men sensitive ASB

-> single pass WTG head shave and a bit of buffing. Comfortable shave.

This seemed like a cool combo for this Sunday night shave. Transition is warm yet inoffensive and WK soap always treats my skin good - it also helped that I used my mildest razor. Had some trouble to get a good lather with the behemoth of a brush, but it worked on my second attempt.

Stayed with a single WTG pass though, after weeks with just a trimmer I simply lack the muscle memory for more.

My Sunday was not only spent studying, so that's a big plus. Have a nice evening/day/night ✌🏻

Howdy stranger, hope you’ve been well!

Hi! 👋🏻 Thanks, things are finally moving in the right direction. Hope to be a bit more active here even in my exam period.

The blade is getting tuggy, and especially ATG it is quite uncomfortable. Maybe some stropping will smooth it back out.

Have a good evening!

I'm still hard at work getting my Shaving Data System a bit more polished, and it's getting close!

Baserow is the software that it's built in, and there seems to be one or two bugs that I (we?) might have to live with. Namely on a mobile phone you can't search for items. People who decide to put hundreds of soaps in might struggle with that. Works great on real computer, though. Haven't tested yet on an iPad.

Anyway, as far as the shave goes -- great! I think @gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social is right, I might end up preferring the Moarteen. Today was almost "easy", although I only did two passes on account of time constraints and not wanting to feel rushed. Still decent results, but maybe not quite good enough if I had to work, for example.

I’m really enjoying following your progress. As time goes by, it gets easier and easier. Then there’s a day you realize that your shave is almost as close as a DE shave is. Then, after fiddling with technique a while, you realize you can get a shave as close, or closer, than you can with a DE shave, and with less irritation. Then, (for me at least) after more shaves, comes the realization that a straight razor shave takes about the same time as a DE shave does. (But is much more satisfying imo 🤔)

[-] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 3 days ago

I can definitely see it being more satisfying once it becomes second nature.

Namely on a mobile phone you can't search for items.

Not a real solution, but on mobile you can always choose to "Desktop Site" and get the same page as on a computer. At the price of a little scrolling and zooming

I tried that already (in Firefox, at least), and it didn't solve the behavior. It gives the input box like it should, and the keyboard pops up as it should, but typing doesn't do anything.

I did find a weird workaround which I described in today’s sotd post. So that’s good…

[-] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 3 days ago

Yah very weird. I haven't looked into if there's an open issue or PR yet, but it's the thing in Chrome, even in Desktop mode.

  • Brush: Zenith/Stirling - 510SE-XL 31mm boar
  • Razor: Koraat - Moarteen (15/16", full hollow) (2)
  • Razor: GEM - MMOC (first gen, 1930-1932)
  • Blade: Personna - GEM PTFE (12)
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Lavanille
  • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann - Lavanille Aftershave splash
  • Post Shave: Stirling - Glacial Unscented Aftershave balm
  • Fragrance: Barrister and Mann - Lavender, Interrupted EdT

Still learning what the hell I'm doing with this straight. Finished off with the MMOC since I need a smooth finish for work tomorrow. I'm not sure if it's my lather or my angle, but the first two passes (WTG, XTG) felt pretty tuggy with the straight.

Lavanille is always lovely to shave with.

I'm not sure if it's my lather or my angle

I'd wager it's angle.

[-] snooting@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 3 days ago

Yep, almost certainly. When I switched to the MMOC the lather performed great.

[-] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 3 days ago

I also found straights to be tuggy at first, but as someone who over-analyzes everything I've come up with a theory. Instead of the blade 'skipping' over the tough parts, my technique now allows me to keep the blade where it should be. My theory is that without the skipping, the tugging feeling goes away.

  • Brush: Zenith – r/Wetshaving exclusive MOAR BOAR (31 mm × 57 mm bleached boar)
  • Razor: Koraat – r/Wetshaving exclusive Moarteen (15/16", full hollow, carbon steel)
  • Lather: Catie's Bubbles – Cape Cod Cranberry

CCC was a blind buy. It came up on Murphy and McNeill for a good price and with all the positive comments on the discord, I couldn't resist.

It's warmer than I expected, and with a solid earthy base. Very enjoyable, and I'm looking forward to experiencing it more over the next weeks.
