Dogs like squeaky toys, because it simulates killing small animals. It doesn’t care if you kill other animals.

[-] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago

I srsly doubt that animals put that much thought into such things, especially considering that most of them lick their own butts.

[-] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

You don't think we'd lick our own butts if we could? We already lick others' butts. It's purely an access/availability issue.

[-] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 10 points 1 year ago

Alright that was a bad example. Animals don't show signs of moralizing about killing other animals. At least my cats sure as hell don't.

My dog would wear a squirrel as a hat if we let him.

[-] Artyom@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

If my dogs are any indication, they would wear a recently deceased squirrel as a coat, entrails and all, preferably dripping blood.

[-] sxan@midwest.social 1 points 1 year ago

Hey, it's cool when the Orca do it with Salmon! Why do you want your dog to not be cool.

My pup straight up skinned a squirrel a few weeks after we adopted her.

[-] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

They would do it too if they could

[-] turtlesareneat@discuss.online 5 points 1 year ago

Yeah pretty sure my dog thinks it's baller

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 2 points 1 year ago

Maybe not huskies not living in the snow. They would rather remove the one they already wear.

[-] jollyrogue@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago

They would. Mine love to roll around in dead things when I’m not watching.

[-] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 11 points 1 year ago

dog's a carnivore. probably doesn't find that any weirder than that you wear hats

[-] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

"bro, wtf share next time"

[-] aeternum@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 11 months ago

they're actually omnivores.

[-] RadicalEagle@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I don’t think dogs are that judgmental.

[-] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

When you bring someone home and the dog starts growling:

[-] RandoMcRanderton@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

If you realize what my dog rolls in you would probably think he's a psycho.

[-] ivanafterall@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

Is it the skin of other animals?

[-] VicVinegar@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

No, the poop.

[-] Formfiller@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

The cat thinks it’s cool

[-] deadcatbounce@reddthat.com 2 points 1 year ago

Anything oil based, like plastic, is the bodies of another animals. Your dog is probably wearing a plastic collar, if not a leather one .. oh wait!

[-] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

You also don't teach a dog about astronomy.

[-] drperil@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

Or that you’re a mighty hunter!

[-] FartsWithAnAccent@fedia.io 1 points 1 year ago

My dogs would probably think I was that much cooler for it, I don't have a leather jacket though.

[-] Yermaw@lemm.ee 1 points 1 year ago

I knew those thumbs were good for more than turning metal cylinders into food.

[-] Tiuku@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 year ago

More likely the dog would just chew on the jacket.

[-] Una@europe.pub 1 points 1 year ago

And dogs are just as psycho as humans

[-] Formfiller@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

My dog eats his own shit so ….

[-] roguetrick@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

It really is the clothes themselves that are strange. That they come from plants, animals, or minerals are largely unimportant, but canis lupus really doesn't care what you kill.

[-] xylogx@lemmy.world 0 points 11 months ago

The weird thing about clothes is that we don’t think they are weird.

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
