it seems we're now blocking hexbear. i haven't been active recently; did something happen about 8 days ago?

EDIT: it wasn't intentional:

Honestly thank god. That place is getting louder and louder and spilling their obvious double standards and apologetics for Authoritarianism all over my feed. They will not be missed.

Is there anyway to know what instances your instance defederates?

[-] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 6 days ago

Your.instance.domain/instances

It's also typically in the footer under instances.

[-] db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 week ago

This seems unintentional. We're looking into it

it seems to have happened again

Thanks we fixed but I'm researching the root cause.

EDIT: OK found the bug and fixed.

[-] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 week ago

I didn't even notice. I've had them on my instance block list since the day instancr blocking was added to Lemmy.

[-] fxomt@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Wait, what? That's odd. It wasn't intentional that's for sure.

Edit: db0 fixed it. Was some threativore fuck up.

I think it would be good to defed as few instances as possible.

Leave the decision to the user.

(I didn’t notice the defed)

[-] AwesomeLowlander@sh.itjust.works 12 points 1 week ago

The user does not have that decision. Instance blocking does not stop users from that instance from interacting with you.

[-] chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 6 days ago

I haven't really had negative interactions with hexbear users since instance blocking and blocking like 30 users I noticed being assholes way back. Maybe they're still responding to my comments without my knowing but idc

Same here. I do like having them there, but I wouldn't want to live on their instance because of the trolls

Then I’m oblivious how lemmy federation works.

Gotta read up on it

Mostly that blocking and defederation aren't the same thing. Blocking only stops the comms on that instance from showing up in your feed. It's entirely unrelated to the federation / activitypub mechanic. It's effectively like you turning on a local filter in your client, and only filters communities.

[-] Kommeavsted@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 week ago

My experience on my old .world acct was that defederation didn't stop user interactions/comments, just posts and search/discovery.

[-] Kommeavsted@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 week ago

Huh. I don't know why i could still see stuff on the old one. Idk. But then again I'm no expert on it 🤷

[-] crawancon@lemm.ee 7 points 1 week ago

I don't know but that tracks.

hexbear is um.. funky.
