Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) national secretary Tejinder Pall Singh Bagga on Monday made a sensational claim, saying killed Sikh separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar was gay and that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau used to like him.

His statement comes amid a diplomatic standoff between India and Canada that ensued after Trudeau alleged the Indian government was involved in Nijjar's killing. India has asked Canada to provide proof to back the allegations but none have come yet.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau used to like him

are they 11 years old?

[-] lustyargonian@lemm.ee 42 points 2 years ago

Yup. Try checking shitbjpsays subreddit someday.

After the self inflicted Reddit apocalypse hit, /r/all was suddenly full of shit subs, among which all the "am I ugly" attention whore ones and several Indian ones.

And I have to say, those subs do not give me a particularly positive view of the Indian people.

Isn't that kinda like basing your opinion of Americans off of r/conservative?

[-] sorebuttfromsitting@sopuli.xyz 17 points 2 years ago

yeah and it seems far more complex than U.S. politics, with 3 times as many in population, but i'm just an american

Yeah that may be true, but this is an old subreddit with basically news articles about BJP (ruling party lead by Modi) spokespersons saying dumb things in public.

Kindergarten politics!

[-] charonn0@startrek.website 94 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

This only leads me to assume that India really did have the guy assassinated.

Fair chance it's true, irrespective of why Canada is risking their trade and global relationship. They probably wouldn't accuse without intelligence.

[-] Grimpen@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 years ago

My understanding is that a reporter was going to break the story. The evidence wasn't just from Canadian intelligence either.

[-] catfish@programming.dev 5 points 2 years ago

Yes I saw an interview with a Canadian official where he clarifies that they had to get in front of it

[-] Wage_slave@lemmy.ml 52 points 2 years ago

Always a relevant Simpsons quote

Kid: What if people say you're not good enough to be in the Constitution?

Amendment: Then I'll crush all opposition to me, And I'll make Ted Kennedy pay. If he fights back, I'll say that he's gaaaay

[-] brihuang95@sopuli.xyz 24 points 2 years ago

Lol wtf is going on these days 😂😂😂

[-] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 years ago

Ok I’m a little behind on this story. Why did Trudeau say India was involved?

And what the fuck, India? Grow up.

[-] Kbin_space_program@kbin.social 25 points 2 years ago

The US has admitted that the five eyes intelligence sharing played a part.

Canada is claiming to have Indian government communiques and signal intelligence backing them up.

[-] sorebuttfromsitting@sopuli.xyz 17 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

this story is still developing, but only badly. so far, it is not clear, but some part of India was probably involved, not sure it implicates the PM Modi or his underlings.

but yeah, Modi ~~looks like~~ is a murderous tyrant, history is stacking up against him

[-] And009@reddthat.com 19 points 2 years ago

Proven tyrant. Lots of documentaries around his shady past.

[-] UraniumBlazer@lemm.ee 16 points 2 years ago

Uhuh.... The BBC recently released a documentary about this very shady past (specifically about the Gujarat riots, where he was accused of ethnic cleansing against Muslims). Guess what.... This documentary was immediately banned country wide by the Indian government and designated as "foreign propaganda".

That's one headline

JJ did an absolutely excellent description of current India Canada tensions https://youtu.be/OdtyKdY_xcM?si=fuuv-4enmGSDb3NM

He gets at least one thing so wrong I have to question the reliability of the entire thing.

Nijjar has been a landed Canadian immigrants since 1997, not 2007, and its important to note that he got that status via a quick marriage after being denied refugee status.

2006 was the first time India claimed him to be some kind of terrorist mastermind.

[-] PilferJynx@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago

Thanks. This topic seems complicated and that there is no moral winner. India cannot assassinate foreign citizens. At the same time, creating a hostile Sikh movement using Canada as a shield should not be tolerated either. We need better anti-extremist programs for every race, culture, and religious groups. I'm just so tired of hate.
