They're just excited because it's kind of like they released Skyrim again and they haven't had their fix in a while.

Bethesda, makers of Fallout 76, may be interested because to use that mod you've to own both Oblivion and Skyrim, making Skyblivion a great scheme to sell you two more games.

[-] MDCCCLV@lemmy.ca 22 points 1 week ago

Everyone that wants to play oblivion in skyrims engine already bought the game.

[-] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 6 days ago

Skyblivion would be my only reason to buy 76.

raises hand haven't bought either and I'm not gonna. Will play skyblivion, tho.

[-] MDCCCLV@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 days ago

Did you play both of them?

[-] nyctre@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Yes. Altho they're the sort of game I never finish. I play 10-20-30 hrs then I get bored and uninstall. But those first few hours are cool.

[-] MDCCCLV@lemmy.ca 1 points 6 days ago

For people that just pirate the game Bethesda doesn't really care either way, they made plenty of money.

[-] jimjam5@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

I have no room to talk. My dumb ass bought both titles at least 3 times over, sooo I’ve given Bethesda/ZeniMax some bidness. I’m the problem.

Am I wrong in thinking that the creative lead for the Oblivion Remaster might not actually be able to speak for Bethesda as a whole?

[-] donuts@lemmy.world 31 points 1 week ago

Why not? He's the development lead at Bethesda Game Studios who has worked there for 20 years.

[-] Telorand@reddthat.com 26 points 1 week ago

Bethesda gave the Skyblivion team free Steam keys for the Remastered version. While I agree that we should apply skepticism, actions seem to demonstrate that Bethesda itself is cool with them, so I think it's probably appropriate for any one team member to speak on their behalf as a whole in this regard.

[-] Derpenheim@lemmy.zip 19 points 1 week ago

While you are absolutely correct in your skepticism, id like to add that multiple facets of Bethesda have both implicitly and explicitly either condoned or outright celebrated what the team is doing.

This project seems to not only just be on Bethesda's radar, but they view as a good thing.

as much as i don't like Bethesda's business decisions, this is pretty chill of them

[-] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 16 points 1 week ago

It's wild to me how everyone has the attention span of a goldfish. Everyone hates Nintendo and Bethesda and whoever else until they flash some shiny object in front of their eyes and they forget everything.

[-] BlueMagma@sh.itjust.works 0 points 6 days ago

I knew everyone hated Nintendo, but I had no idea people hated Bethesda ? What is this about ? I know there are a lot of jokes about the many rererereleases of Skyrim, but I never thought it was hatred, is it ?

[-] gamermanh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 6 days ago

What is this about ?

Todd lying, broken games, shallow games, "were not planning on doing anything about it", the list goes on

Here be a video on the topic that includes images n shit as proof

[-] BlueMagma@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 days ago

Thanks, I was completely out of the loop on this

[-] Psythik@lemm.ee 3 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Really? Have you never played a Bethesda game before? The issues are obvious.

Fallout 76 and Starfield were both massive failures. It doesn't help that Bethesda insists on sticking with the same outdated engine they've been using since 1997. Even Oblivion Remastered still relies on Gamebryo to run the game logic. UE5 is only used for the graphics.

They can't make fun games with compelling storylines anymore, and they all play the same because the mechanics for their titles haven't changed in nearly 30 years. They just make the same games over and over again because they don't know how to keep up with the times. I'm tired of them.

[-] BlueMagma@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 days ago

Haven't played the recent ones, but I did play oblivion and Skyrim extensively, don't know how I missed the subject, it seems to be everywhere now that I know

[-] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

Which version of Skyrim will Skyblivion require?

[-] Allero@lemmy.today 3 points 6 days ago

Probably Special Edition or above

[-] lustyargonian@lemm.ee 8 points 1 week ago

One that will be succeeded with a next gen update.

[-] Zahille7@lemmy.world -5 points 1 week ago

Bethesda haters will see this and still say Bethesda purposely sabotages modders and other developers.

[-] Demdaru@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Aaaand you were proven right xD
