I too would like this knowledge to be imparted upon my person.

[-] ayaya@lemmy.fmhy.ml 39 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Hardened by default, no telemetry, no Pocket, virtually everything Mozilla-related removed, and timely updates unlike some other forks. It is like the Ungoogled Chromium equivalent of Firefox. Since I do not like the company it is the perfect option for me.

[-] GunnarRunnar@kbin.social 21 points 1 year ago

Why don't you like Mozilla?

[-] ayaya@lemmy.fmhy.ml 18 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

They are a for-profit company including laying off staff but their CEO still makes CEO money even while the company is struggling. Not to mention if you are trying to degoogle that is where Mozilla makes the bulk of its income. That's just a few things of many, they've also made stupid decisions like leaving Thunderbird out in the cold for years or that whole Colorways thing they wasted time on. Not to mention I don't actually even like Firefox the browser. I use librewolf strictlty out of principle and not because I actually prefer it over chromium. I think it is inferior in most ways but I am opposed to the centralization so here we are.

[-] Tartas1995@discuss.tchncs.de 20 points 1 year ago

Just as a sidenote, Thunderbird is not part of the same company as firefox and was part of the Mozilla foundation until 2020. Thunderbird is no longer "out in the cold". There is a new version (115) that you might want to check out if you like thunderbird.

I don't want to engage with the rest.

[-] ayaya@lemmy.fmhy.ml 5 points 1 year ago

I am aware. I have been a Thunderbird user for at least 15 years which is why I am unhappy with their general treatment of it over the years as a second class citizen. But at least it is in a better place now.

[-] SomeBoyo@feddit.de 3 points 1 year ago

They waste a lot of money on unrelated projects

[-] Pechente@feddit.de 6 points 1 year ago

Which they often half-ass, then discontinue like Lockwise. A bit like Google is handling their projects.

[-] amanneedsamaid@sopuli.xyz 17 points 1 year ago

Its hardened firefox, but you dont have to do any of the hardening yourself. Thats it, and thats why I continue to just use hardened firefox.

[-] OptimisticPrime@lemmy.fmhy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

Heh... hardened

[-] DogMuffins@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 1 year ago

They pre-install ublock origin basically.

[-] MigratingtoLemmy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

It's hardened. Breaks websites if you don't loosen up security. Personally, I'm fine with not being able to access websites which absolutely attempt to implement rubbish like a bunch of failed redirects (looking at you aliexpress), but YMMV

[-] XEAL@lemm.ee 22 points 1 year ago

I use Fennec on Android because I can use desktop Firefox addons if I enable developer options and use my addon collection.

[-] Sucuk@kbin.social 11 points 1 year ago

Well, Mull is more like a "Librewolf for Android", I (think) it is more privacy-focused than Fennec.
Mull also supports more extensions from developer options.

Check these out for Librewolf and Mull's results. Fennec isn't in the list (yet?)

[-] Hextic@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Hmmm that was bothering me that mobile Firefox has access to like six add-ons. At least ublock was one.

Take a look at iceraven (:

I use Firefox with adblock and Duckduckgo, for me I good enough.

[-] Titou@feddit.de 8 points 1 year ago

Great choice, i use Librewolf with ublock + privacy badger and searx as a search engine

[-] darcy@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago

based. i believe privacy badger is redundant with ublock?

[-] zaph@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Mostly. Sometimes it'll catch something ublock missed though so not pointlessly redundant.

Meh, firefox is plenty enough

[-] amanneedsamaid@sopuli.xyz 7 points 1 year ago

That implies Librewolf is improved in some way, but it is just Firefox with hardening applied.

[-] Torxgewinde@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 1 year ago

Mike Kuketz had a detailed look at several browsers and Librewolf as well. In a nutshell, he was pleased and states that the default settings are user friendly. His website is in German though: https://www.kuketz-blog.de/librewolf-datensendeverhalten-desktop-version-browser-check-teil8/

[-] Cmot_Dibbler@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I always told Firefox that it was too good for you. But Firefox wouldn't listen. It would say, "No, Titou is the one. Titou will never do me wrong." Well. Well. Well..

[-] HappyFrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

[-] float@waveform.social 3 points 1 year ago

Oh nice, Can I still sync my Firefox account with it? Been looking for an alternative so I can use FF for both work and home.

[-] entropicshart@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

If you’re looking for a bookmark sync, check out floccus, a FOSS plugin for Firefox and chromium browsers that will sync your bookmarks to a cloud storage and across your browsers.

[-] nyakojiru@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 year ago

Last time I checked it has the sync removed.

[-] ghoscht@feddit.de 9 points 1 year ago

You can reenable that in the settings, but it's off by default. I use it everyday

[-] nyakojiru@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 year ago

Nice Ty. Can you share how to do it?

[-] snorvar@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 year ago
[-] ghoscht@feddit.de 2 points 1 year ago

You can also do it with the normal settings menu (about:preferences). The setting is called "Enable Firefox Sync" under the tab "LibreWolf". Might be a bit easier this way.
