I would like to use part of my income to set up a regular monthly charitable donation. I have a couple of charities in mind but really I don't know where the money would be best spent to make a worthwhile difference.

My first thought was Cancer Research UK, but I don't really think my few quid a month will affect their £700m budget at all. Any smaller ones of good reputation?

The ME Association. May is ME awareness month so you should all be aware that ME fucking sucks. The quality of life for people with ME is pretty shit compared to other serious diseases and the funding per person is almost non existent.

A small local one. The big ones do great work, of course, but another £1000 doesn't change things much for them, whereas £1000 would make a tangible difference for a small charity

I'd second this

Call me selfish, but my little amount of money spare gets donated to the guys who’ll most likely save my dumb arse when if and when I screw up - the RNLI, my local Air Ambulance, and the local cancer charity that’s helped my mum. Considering how many of my mates have benefited from the help of the first two, and my mum the last one, I think I’m getting a pretty good return on my investment.

Shelter is not a small charity at all, but they helped my sister and boyfriend at the time when they had serious problems with a terrible landlord a number of years ago. So I've always had a positive bias towards them to the point where they're the one I donate regularly to

RNLI maybe? This is just something that came to mind quickly. You could also find some local charities for stuff like mental health and such

There’s a few charities and organisations I never hesitate to put my hand in my pocket for.

MacMillan cancer support because they helped our family through a horrible time.

The local air ambulance because one once gave my wife a lift to hospital once.

Our local neo-natal intensive care unit where our twins stayed for a while.

The list of things I want to give money to is much longer than my bank account would allow.

I donate to Crisis at Christmas to assist homeless people, and would happily give them more throughout the year if I could.

The RNLI is vital and only funded through charitable donations.

I have a soft spot for any of the hospice charities, such as St. Catherine's Hospice (our local one). There's also a good one in the Midlands for terminal children and their parents called Acorn's Children's Hospice.

Edit: the wife is voting for Guide Dogs.
