Eurovision, drunk with friends is an incredible experience.

The tacky, the cringe, the vulgarity and the glory all in one single, LGBTQIA+-friendly, glorious night.

And sometimes there even are "good" songs!

Well ofcourse not.

[-] Commiunism@beehaw.org 1 points 3 hours ago

No, I hate music

[-] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 hours ago

I didn't wanna watch it live because I don't want to support Zionists, I'm planning on watching clips of the good performances today.

If anyone did watch it live, do you have any recommendations? Who really killed it this year?

[-] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 3 points 4 hours ago

After the corrupt bullying of contestants last year, nah

[-] kcweller@feddit.nl 15 points 7 hours ago

The most vacuous, pointless popularity contest, with special guest: genocidal zionists.

I'd rather drown.

[-] huppakee@lemm.ee 3 points 5 hours ago

I don't watch because I want to know who wins, perfect example of the journey being worth more than the destination.

[-] slazer2au@lemmy.world 20 points 8 hours ago

Na, I have a better things to do then watch a popularity contest masquerading as a music performance.

[-] urquell@lemm.ee 11 points 8 hours ago

I didn't. I just hoped Israel would have won. Organisation dealing with next edition in Israel should be entertaining at least.

[-] starlinguk@lemmy.world 11 points 7 hours ago

Sweden leading in the polls and Israel suddenly doing really well was dodgy as hell. Glad they didn't win.

[-] huppakee@lemm.ee 8 points 5 hours ago

I heard they put in a massive effort to get votes, all kinds of government agencies posting on social media how to vote for Israel (even though you're not allowed to vote on your own countries entry), they supposedly ran ads in European countries during the voting time frame and I have also seen a pic of a huge ad on times Square (yes, the one in the USA) calling people to vote for Israel.

[-] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 3 points 4 hours ago

Are there photos of this? That'd be kinda fun to see

[-] huppakee@lemm.ee 2 points 3 hours ago

Here's two urls about them advertising

on youtube: https://www.thecanary.co/trending/2025/05/18/israel-eurovision/

and times square: https://www.thejournal.ie/irish-vote-israel-eurovision-6378306-May2024/

It's kinda hard finding sources since you have to scroll through pages of english language news sources that report exclusively on israel with articles on how the european population collectively stand with israel. So obvious the propaganda if you're not in their bubble.

[-] Ilovethebomb@lemm.ee 5 points 7 hours ago

Ooh, good point.

[-] Pipster@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 6 hours ago

Yup, I watch it almost entirely for Graham Norton's commentary, continuing Terry Wogan's legacy on taking the piss out of the acts, presenters and spokespeople.

[-] huppakee@lemm.ee 2 points 5 hours ago

I watched it in my own language again, every year afterwards i think 'damn, should really watch the uk version again. British humour is quite alright so is Graham Norton.

[-] acidbattery@lemm.ee 8 points 8 hours ago

It used to be a fun event when the contestants didn’t take themselves too seriously. Lately it seems like it’s gotten even more politicized with worse entries. I might watch highlights if I read something interesting happened.

[-] biofaust@lemmy.world 7 points 7 hours ago

I usually do. This time it was in Switzerland, in the city of the First Zionist Congress, with Israel allowed to participate while perpetrating a genocide. There are at least 3 things I abhor in the previous sentence, so no.

[-] Isa@feddit.org 8 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

Since I really dislikes it … nope, I haven't.

~Yet I still hope, that all those who did watch it, enjoyed it very much! :)~

[-] RagingToad@feddit.nl 5 points 7 hours ago

Yes, absolutely.

Despite the inclusion of Israel (which is hated by fans, presenters and other artists, so everyone except the organization itself), it still feels like a festival of art and inclusitivity (is that the right word?).

And I love it. Still have the PED (Post Euro Depression) today. It's so much fun following these artists all week and I'm in an empty space now.

Nope, couldn't care less about pop music with the only exception being Father Ted and Father Dougal singing "My lovely horse".

[-] Zwuzelmaus@feddit.org 1 points 6 hours ago

You write this in the past tense... therefore I guess the correct answer would be: No.

[-] Skua@kbin.earth 1 points 6 hours ago

I usually wind up watching it not because I choose to but because a good friend absolutely loves it and her birthday is very close to it. I just try to make the most of the night and have fun with everyone

[-] JustJack23@slrpnk.net 1 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago)

I have never watched it except last year.... Really disappointing performance from the organizers

[-] GreyShuck@feddit.uk 1 points 8 hours ago

Not since the early '80s.
