Making the new guy take the Christmas shift is a dick move on the part of the team/company.

For me it feels like the longer I work as a developer the less code I write. My days are usually spend more in research, creating plans, reviewing PRs, etc.

I do also miss coding and like to experiment with new features and languages so I just code on the side with things like advent of code or leetcode.
