Me too, that's why I've started watching Wode Maya, the creator of the linked video.

It's interesting to see travel vlogs about different countries across the continent from the perspective of a Ghanian guy who went to a Chinese university and studied aerospace engineering, and wants to present all the countries in Africa in the best possible light.

Cool stuff is happening there (AES++??), so its time to get well educated. I've linked his Burkina Faso video as a starting point.

"Round of applause to @spectre@hexbear.net for clicking the post button"

Idk, this "online celebrity doing content that is 90% emotional reactions to things" genre doesn't really float my boat. The prospect/goal of this video was rather unrealistic, the questions were kind of loaded and weren't crafted to get good answers. This and another recent video of his I watched felt like they could have been 70% shorter and still covered everything, as if they were made for people who don't care about details, and just want slop of a recognizable face talking dramatically about something.

It felt like it had an essentialist philosophy underlying it too.

I like how his name sounds like ζˆ‘ηš„ моя, "my my", though.

I definitely didn't like that in all of the times he stopped to ask people why they liked Traore, he never gave them enough space to explain specifically why the new government is good. It's just "he's for the people" (and I'm sure if given a bit more time they would have more specific things to say!)

Also, focusing on new factories being built without explaining that Traore isn't just a neoliberal who is bringing foreign capital to exploit his nation. He is specifically going out of his way to keep the Sankara legacy alive by doing socialist development, not funded by imperialists.

Yes. I hate to be critical of videos like this, and it's a nitpick ig but I couldn't help wincing even in the first 30 seconds, talking about Burkina Faso's rapidly growing popularity by saying "And it's all just because of one man."

Ty, just wanted to set the bar for content here, and would love to see more quality and quantity to follow if there is something better. Also important is the discussion, so thank you for posting, yourself!

I was being ironic in using one of WM's mannerisms that I saw him use 3x in 40 minutes. I haven't watched enough to tell if you're doing the same.

Another thought while watching was "he feels like Yi Long Ma but West African".

Guerilla History is also doing a history on African revolutions right now - highly recommended!

If it leads you to a creator with equal or better quality content than this guy, be sure to post it!
