The amount of people just posting evidence of them being entirely unable to drive a car with 0 consequences is insane. Great compilation of you raging out over somebody going 5 below the limit, phone in hand in the drivers seat. Really liked when you got stuck behind a lorry for 20 seconds and were frothing at the mouth over it. You're never getting your license back.

Everyone demanding Eco-Stalin but I'm also demanding Urban-Stalin

[-] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 24 points 2 weeks ago

this isn't even limited to urbanistic settings. a whole great big bunch of people just daily posting their crashouts on rural streets or the highway over some perceived slight. Especially when cyclists get involved where it's just straight up murder fantasies. Yeah sorry for the most obvious reasons ever we don't actually think you can drive a car like a normal person

[-] RNAi@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

Totally agree, a RuralTransit-Stalin is also needed

[-] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 25 points 2 weeks ago

also bump up the testing standard from rock bottom up to bus driver level
it's a multi-ton piece of machinery, wild how easy it is to get licensed in the first place

wild how easy it is to get licensed in the first place

many people would not be able to live because of car dependent shitholes being car dependent.

[-] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 13 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

and many people who are killed by bad drivers would not be dead
someone loses either way but i'm on the side of not letting people loose in public with dangerous machinery when they aren't qualified to operate it safely

Stricter requirements and more efficient enforcement would also have a preventative effect. Once people realise that they can get in real trouble for driving like assholes they will drive better.

[-] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago

you have to account for the excess deaths of people you make homeless if you just say fuck 'em like that

[-] Horse@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 2 weeks ago

i already did
i fall on the side of needing to be able to operate a dangerous machine safely before you are allowed to do so in public where you can maim or kill others through incompetence

I unironically think this is a good way to reduce demand for cars and roads. Pitch more stringent lisencing standards every time someone complains about a bad driver. People all have the idea that everyone else is a shit driver, so prey on that exceptionism by insisting they should have the road to themselves.

Then slide into mass transit. Say people still need to work and that this would make sure all the terrible drivers they see on the road don't NEED cars

[-] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 11 points 2 weeks ago

if you just do the strict licensing you just get a pile of unlicensed uninsured drivers.

it needs to roll out after transit is available

Yeah I drove unlicensed for a year anf my gf for 3 years because, surprise surprise, we still needed to go to work

[-] Dessa@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

Stricter lisencing is a foot in the door in terms of persuasion, but yeah, transit first is better for implementation.

I've not ridden in the US, being a small german boy, but I don't exactly get the feeling better testing is the solve here if you never even do anything about this afterwards.

A common idea in germany is pedestrians and cyclists, including small children, are "forcing their right of way" and it's kind of their fault if they get hit because they get the short end of the stick of being hit by a car. The judiciary might punish you, in a car, hallucinating a traffic light being green while it is red and running over a small child with up to 3 months of a driving ban you can contest.

People who rev their extremely loud fucking engines should also get jail time for that shit. Can't fucking stand having to deal with assholes revving their loud ass engines all fucking day long to the point where I can't hear myself talk from indoors 100 feet away. Fuck you no one thinks you're cool you're just an obnoxious asshole go die.

[-] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 15 points 2 weeks ago

Some rich failson was going around Seattle revving and being a fuckwit and the cops kept ticketing him when he couldn't evade them and it did nothing because he was a rich boy.

People were unironically making plans to kill that motherfucker. Even the kind of people that weren't joking and were the type of person to mag dump a car.

So SPD finally got off their asses and arrested the nuisance because John Q Public was going to go apeshit on his ass and they were coordinating across social media to track the fucker down.

damn, are there any articles/reporting on this? or even like a thread in the local sub

All Seattle communities everywhere that resemble a forum are astroturfed cancer, do not engage if you value your sanity.

[-] buckykat@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

All [local area] online communities are filled with basically nazis

Last time I was in downtown Seattle and somebody did that, I dragged a nearby construction sign in front of him... he was waiting at a light.

No clue if this was the same person, this was years ago now.... it was some asshole in Pioneer Square with a ford f one million truck, endlessly circling whilst looking for nonexistant parking.

I just walked away with him cursing and honking... he actually forced his female front seat passenger to get out of the truck and unobstruct him.

[-] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 2 weeks ago

This could literally be done automatically, as with many other kinds of social media data harvesting...

... but keeping shit ass drivers off the road apparently isn't as important as say, policing certain politically verboten speech/topics, or even more importantly, precisely nailing you down into a self reinforcing advertisement loop that also gives you some very specific form of mental illness.

Like, I am not sure if this is a thing in the UK/AUS (profiling you because you said 'lorry') but uh, in the states, a fuckton of people have been conned into setting up their phone with their car insurance app to constantly realtime monitor them, with promises of 'lower insurance rates for good driving!'... even though that never happens and it just penalizes you for speeding or accelerating or braking too hard, or just the location tracking fucking up and hallucinating such....

... and thats assuming the car doesn't just do all that shit itself.

[-] Lyudmila@hexbear.net 10 points 2 weeks ago

Setting my phone down a little harder than normal and getting -6 to my FICO score because some app thinks I just drove my car off a cliff (I don't even have a car)

After a bout of homelessness and constantly having my wallet stolen every 2-4 weeks...

I now have Credit Karma and Kikoff to at least give me the numbers as I try to fix all that shit up.

Kikoff? The app is basically still in beta lol, but it isn't annoying.

Credit Karma? The apps for the 3 actual credit bureaus?

Constantly trying to get me to lower my car insurance and also get a new car and also here have a 35% APR credit card!

... My car got fucking stolen, I got crippled, then the car got repo'd.

But uh, doesn't matter, Credit Karma still wants to tell me to enable driving mode to save money on insurance for my stolen fucking car they know I do not have.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!
