I most certainly want to go to the previous establishment

[-] jaybone@lemmy.zip 6 points 4 months ago

I’d have to see Chuck first.

[-] boonhet@lemm.ee 4 points 4 months ago

Oh if it's him personally, I'm not interested. I was hoping there would be a selection.

Sn(eed)'s F(eed) and S(eed)

Substitute the new name and copy its suffix to the F and S words:

Ch(uck)'s F(uck) and S(uck)

Another less crude example would be

B(ill)'s F(ill) and Sw(ill) - presumably a bar and grill

[-] EvacuateSoul@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

If you keep the rhyming structure

[-] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 21 points 4 months ago

Also the Burger of the day.

[-] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago

That first pretty crazy to reference, wno all would know that movie?

[-] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 10 points 4 months ago

Pretty esoteric, for sure. Probably a couple people in the writing pool backed it and the powers that be just let it go as it's not pushing any buttons on the surface.

[-] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 7 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Or have no clue about the movie. Pretty hot lesbian scene for sure.

[-] ummthatguy@lemmy.world 12 points 4 months ago

Joke aside, likely ignorance on their part.

[-] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Thanks for the Mallrats gif, that's awesome! True guess not something we should talk about in public, but I not met anyone who had seen then film.

[-] BuboScandiacus@mander.xyz 5 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Which one ?

I guess the first is "blue is the warmest color"

Second and third idk

[-] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Yeah I know the first the other two allude me.

Bob always insists that his ideas for specials are perfect, and often chooses references that are too obscure, or just inappropriate for a family diner.

Sometimes a string of better ideas get quoted by various other characters, throughout the episode.

So the writers give Bob their worst (least appropriate) idea, each episode.

Sadly, many of the better ones don't become signs for screenshots, because Bob cannot admit when he is wrong.

This is one of the few shows where I never skip the intro. Sometimes I even rewind, because I missed either the pun on the storefront or on the van.

[-] ryedaft@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 months ago

It's so fast!

[-] slaneesh_is_right@lemmy.org 1 points 4 months ago

I loved the sinkhole before the movie came out.

[-] ExtraMedicated@lemmy.world 12 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Also some of the music in this show is great. I think my favorite might be the one in the episode where Bob is stuck to the toilet.

Just amazing talent all around with that show.

[-] Alaik@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 months ago

Bad things happen in the bathroom...

Yeah the music is on point, and the burger of the day and store names are great.

[-] viral.vegabond@piefed.social 2 points 4 months ago

My favorite was the episode where Marshmallow sings to their parents. It was such a genuine and heartfelt moment, and I feel like there's very few shows (let alone cartoons) that can evoke that kind of emotion. Downright incredible, and this show just keeps getting better and better in my opinion. The music has always been good (in an often endearingly cheesy kind of way), but this moment just felt so real.

I have to imagine that the creators base much of the show off of their real world experiences. You just can't make some of that stuff up.

[-] MeaanBeaan@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Might not be my favorite music in the show but my favorite story about the music in the show.

I forget where I heard it but I listened to the creator of the show talk about making the intro song and he ended up doing something that I both admire a lot and find genuinely hilarious.

If you're a musician you may have experienced or be familiar with the idea of chasing the demo. If not, a quick definition is trying to recapture the vibe or quality of an initial rough recording when you're laying down final professionally recorded takes.

When the creator was trying to figure out an intro for the show he was screwing around on his ukulele just trying to find like a fun chord progression. He found one he liked and quickly recorded it on his phone. The plan was to just use that recording as a jumping off point he would take and flesh out with more "serious" instruments and recording techniques later on. The thing was, nothing they did captured how that initial phone recording felt. Now, This isn't abnormal. It happens all the time in fact. Normally youd just suck it up and get as close as you can while maintaining the quality of your recordings. Because you just can't use a cruddy recording on a professional production. After all, nobody outside of who made the song will know that you failed to match the exact vibes of your rough phone recording. So they did the most logical thing and used the low quality phone recording as the FOUNDATION FOR THE FINAL INTRO.

And when you listen you can totally tell. Especially if youre like me and have recorded an untold number of rough takes on your phone over the years. It's clearly a phone recording riddled with those telltale phone recording artifacts.

But y'know what? He was right. It totally works. It's frankly a great intro and I couldn't imagine the show with a different one.

Edit: I figured out where I heard it. Episode 8 of The Song Exploder podcast.

Really great podcast in general if you're at all interested in music production.

It's such a shame that they've clearly scaled back the amount of music (musical scenes) in the episodes.

[-] zebidiah@lemmy.ca 0 points 4 months ago

Hard disagree, I find the song episodes tedious and painful...

[-] ExtraMedicated@lemmy.world -1 points 4 months ago

Normally I'm the same way, but some of the songs on this show are good enough to justify it for me.

[-] x00z@lemmy.world -1 points 4 months ago

I dropped the show because of too much singing. The songs were great but it really dislike that kind of stuff.

[-] ExtraMedicated@lemmy.world 0 points 4 months ago

I'm also generally not a fan of musicals, but I feel like the show as a whole is still great.

[-] mysticpickle@lemmy.ca 0 points 4 months ago

Yeah the song numbers are generally a bit cringe for me too. Some of them are genuinely funny but most of them just make me want them to get on with the damn episode.

[-] Vinny_93@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago

How about the hair salon in American Dad!, called Curl Up & Dye

[-] k48r@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

That's a reference to the Blues Brothers movie

[-] 843563115848@lemmy.zip 4 points 4 months ago

Love those, so funny!

[-] bss03@infosec.pub 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

"sign jokes" are probably written by "the room". Everyone tosses out 2-3, and the whoever is running the room for that episode picks one. They might even keep a backlog for these since they don't really have to be related to the episode plots/topics. Simpsons and Futurama also have them in many episodes, but Bob's Burger's is the only show I know that always has one (two if you count the "Burger of the Day").

[-] Kolanaki@pawb.social 2 points 4 months ago

They must not be very good businesses though. They change every episode!

[-] mysticpickle@lemmy.ca 4 points 4 months ago

The people that open these businesses are punners first and business people second :o

[-] Clanket@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

I miss Bob's Burgers. We finished them all last year

[-] Zimeron@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

The new season is airing on Thursdays

[-] Clanket@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

There's a new season, happy days.

[-] RizzoTheSmall@lemm.ee 1 points 4 months ago

No, Bob's Burgers. Happy Days finished fucking ages ago.

Just go all over again! It’s a show we watch with the whole family, we just loop it

[-] hungryphrog@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 4 months ago
