June 16th, 2025: Where's the Beef?

  • Brush: Rad Dinosaur Creations "Nebulagance" - TurnNShave Quartermoon 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: RazoRock - Game Changer .76-P $CNC
  • Blade: Wizamet Super Iridium (5)
  • Lather: Declaration Grooming - Delta-V - Soap
  • Post Shave: Stirling - Arkadia - Aftershave
  • Fragrance: GLHF Workshop - Atriox - EdT

Theme: I used Declaration Grooming's Delta-V soap in the Milksteak base, which includes bison tallow as one of its ingredients.

Challenge: After a very busy and stressful Monday, I did not have it in me to mess around with reversing my shave routine. I just needed a good, relaxing, and comfortable shave. $SELFCARE

$FOF - Atriox is a dupe of Brut by Faberge. A soft, smooth and, dare I say, elegant barbershop-y scent, it nicely rounded out the bright grapefruit and orange in Arkadia. It's a classic scent for a reason. Thanks for the bottle u/pridetwo!

  • Brush: Chisel & Hound Raven 26mm V26 Fanchurian
  • Razor: Dovo Art of Shaving 5/8 Hollow Ground Round Point
  • Lather: Declaration Grooming - Cerberus - Soap
  • Post Shave: Noble Otter - Cerberus - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Thayers - Coconut - Toner
  • Fragrance: Declaration Grooming - Cerberus - Eau de Parfum

3 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

For today's theme, this soap contains bison tallow in its Milksteak base.

For today's challenge, I chose to do a 3-pass trifecta shave in reverse order. My progression for today was:

  • Fragrance
  • Aftershave
  • Toner
  • Third pass (lathering, then using my third pass pattern)
  • Second pass (lathering, then using my second pass pattern)
  • First pass (lathering, then using my first pass pattern)
  • Pre-shave - my normal "peoples' preshave" method; working proto-lather into the face with water

I will say that this was, by far, the best shave I've had ... today.

Octidi 28 Prairial an 233 de la Révolution, jour de Thym

Absinthe is really a great scent, and I'm very happy to have tried it (and also the MdC base). Excellent shave.

Have a good night!

  • Brush: AP Shave Co. Snakeskin w/ 26 mm Silksmoke Flattop/Fan hybrid
  • Razor: GEM Micromatic Open Comb
  • Blade: Personna GEM PTFE
  • Lather: Zingari Man - The Rambler
  • Post-Shave: alum block; Lavera Men sensitive ASB

-> 1 pass WTG + clean-up on the head. A nice shave, but a few bloody dots - haven't used the MMOC in quite a while.

And it wasn't very clean either. In fact, I had to go with a cartridge over a spot I missed at the back of my head (where GEM razors are tricky to use perfectly). Yet still, I took my time for a nice shave again that I could post. Last Thursday I only used my cartridge and brushless cream under the shower, which IMHO wasn't worth writing about.

Rambler is a very sweet scent, but it's the first ZM soap I ever bought so it's kinda special to me. I still suck at lathering ZM sometimes, but the soap rewards me with nice glide and a great post shave feeling.

Currently I sit at home this week to prepare for my practical and oral exams. Haven't done much for it yet tbh, but I plan to change that tomorrow. I wanted to get back into gaming a bit, but I often feel frustrated by the modern game market. For example, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle would be something totally up my alley - yet the disk version contains a meager 300 KB and ~157 GB of the game are downloaded over the MS store. I mean, why even bother with a physical version then? It's just window dressing in that case.

June 16th, 2025: Bear Tallow

  • Brush: L'Occitane Plisson Synthetic
  • Razor: Wolfman Guerilla - Gen 1
  • Blade: Personna P74 (86)
  • Lather: Red House Farms - No Scrub - Soap
  • Post Shave: Stirling Soap Co. - Varen - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Nivea - Sensitive Beard & Face - Balm
  • Fragrance: Stirling Soap Co. - Varen - EdP

Theme justification: ingredients are Soy Wax, North American Black Bear Tallow, NAOH, KOH, Castor Oil, Coconut Oil, Glycerine, Aloe Vera, Fragrance, Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Lanolin, Sodium Lactate, EDTA, Titanium Dioxide.

Not only is there no Beef Tallow, but it also excludes the most common ingredient of all -- stearic acid.

I've had questionable lathers with this soap in the past, so today I was determined to get a good one. It's a small container, so I figured that probably inhibits proper loading. I loaded loaded loaded loaded to make sure I got enough soap in my brush, and it helped a ton. Very decent lather. I think this soap is worthy of a container transplant, but first I have to make sure I can safely remove/move the label. It just wouldn't be the same without that handsome bear on the front.

Relevant post shave: Varen is a scent from Stirling Soap Co., and in soap form it's only available in the Mutton base which uses sheep tallow. So in a roundabout kind of way, it has something in common with No Scrub.

June 16th, 2025: Where's the Beef?

  • Brush: Rad Dinosaur Creations - Stars w/ AP G5C Synthetic
  • Razor: Schick - Injector
  • Blade: Schick Yellow
  • Lather: Red House Farm - No Scrub - Soap
  • Post Shave: Catie's Bubbles - Tonsorial Parlour - Aftershave

Daily Theme Justification: No Scrub soap contains North American Black Bear tallow.

Daily Theme: Today's theme was relatively easy for me. I have a few soaps that contain duck fat, but I realized I hadn't used No Scrub yet during the Games. My lather sucked today, but 100% my fault due to today's challenge.

Daily Challenge: I'm not sure if this is a new challenge, but man this was not that enjoyable. The splash was nice to start out with, but building a lather on a dry face proved to be really difficult. It doesn't help that this soap can be difficult to load with a big brush. After two passes and a rinse, I was finished up. A very unsatisfying finish to a shave. I am looking forward to tomorrow for something a little bit more normal. Happy Monday!

Where's the Beef?: Day 16 of Lather Games

  • Brush: Chisel and Hound – Flame On with v26 Fanchurian
  • Razor: Wade & Butcher The Sheffield (9/8", extra hollow ground) #Revenant #Str8Snob
  • Lather: Grooming Dept – Almond Vanilla
  • Post Shave: House of Mammoth – Almond Leather
  • Fragrance: Tom Ford – Lost Cherry

Theme justification: This base has duck fat. Almond vanilla has this sweet kind of almond that smells like cherry, and its a fun little experiment to sniff it between more almondy almond like HoM Almond Leather and real cherry in TF Lost Cherry. When I sniff Almond leather and Almond Vanilla, Almond Vanilla smells like straight cherry to me. But after sniffing a bit of Lost Cherry, Almond Vanilla switches to almond in my brain. Oh the fun you can have.

I typically lather up and then shave, and today's challenge would invert that order. Luckily for me, I forgot about the challenge until it was too late.

I honed up this razor during my lunch break, just before the shave, and its a pretty one. I thought I was buying a typical quarter- or half-hollow W&B à la FBU, but this one is fully hollow ground. I didn't know that WB did such grinds until now.

Now that's a razor with a lot of character! I love it! I've seen hollow ground W&B online. I guess they got in on the craze once the Hexe was invented.

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 2 hours ago

Yes they did, and this particular one is full hollow by modern standards, not like the Celebrated. Quite fascinating, this.
