Pettiness and pragmatism are two wildly different things. I'd also count her as pragmatic.

Yeah, Moonies. I can't remember why him. The kid that did it, his mom was grifted 100k or something. That's all I remember though.
It was because Abe, like other LDP politicians, had an history of propping up the Church of Unification cult. The shooter picked him specifically because of a video of Abe speaking in one of their churches. Abe's family in particular has connections to the cult since the very foundation, and their ties to the LDP are something out of a "Like A Dragon"/"Yakuza" plot.
He was a big supporter I think.
Most successful political assassination in recent memory. The shooter got everything he wanted and then some.
Inspiring, really.

As an English speaking American, I would attempt the same thing.

Anybody whose able to speak another language than english can do it.
But that does exclude a lot of americans.
you don't even actually have to speak another language. just make shit up. babble like a fundie "speaking in tongues" and repeat "no speakey eni englche"... helps if you can go a little castor-eyed and pull out the crazed weirdo look.
But please don't try that with bilinguals. We may not understand you but we have plenty of experience knowing what a foreign language sounds like.
I've had two people pull that shit on me and all they did was lose my respect for thinking I'm that stupid.
While I get what you're saying, I'm not sure whether people who are pretending to speak another language in order to avoid talking to you really care after they have your respect.
You only need a couple of phrases (and a practiced accent/pronunciation) to seem believable enough for them to give up
