Hello comrades and welcome to the fourth and last improvement megathread of June! bonfire

Tomorrow is the last day of June so this is a good time to review our progress from this month and set goals for July. Pride Month is over, get ready for Wrath Month. catgirl-hiss

Some discussion ideas:

- How was your week?
- Do you have some plans for next week?
- Do you have any sober days or streaks?
- How was your June?
- Do you have some plans for July?

Over the past few weeks I have lost five kilos ๐Ÿ˜Ž

There have been some ups and downs, some days where I eat way too much and more days like today, where I eat a salad for lunch, a curry for dinner, no snacks and feel perfectly satisfied. Also my workout today was apparently over 700 calories of exercise, and it didn't feel too exhausting. I've gotten so much stronger over the past five weeks

A few months ago, with a half marathon coming up this fall, I decided it was a good chance to cut my weight down, with the general logic of "long run easier if weigh fewer lbs."

(cw: some discussion of weight loss/diet to follow.)

Not trusting any one strategy, I decided I'd leave nothing to chance and opted for a combined approach - as low carb as is practical, intermittent fasting whenever possible, and lots of physical activity - trying to make sure I work up a decent sweat at least 5 days a week. (my job helps with this a lot.) I'm 2 months into this process, with a little under 4 to go. and am down from 200lbs to a little under 180lbs. So the good news is my self-directed and administered weight loss plan is going great with 4 months to go. the downside is while there have been benefits (excellent command of my sleep schedule, few energy shortages), my mood/disposition and overall depression level have not changed in the slightest. Ah well.....worth a shot lol

Without going into any details, this was the worst week I've had in 2025. On top of everything, there was a heat wave so I couldn't even go running. Next week should be easier hopefully.

As for the month review, this June started well, I continued my running and meditation streaks from May. But then at some point it got miserably hot. I hate summer and it's always the worst season for me.

I don't have a lot of plans for July, it's gonna be too hot to do anything. I'll try to meditate and go running when possible. I also want to make plans with people at least once per week.

Its been a while since I've posted in one of these and overall the month hasn't been too bad. Still haven't been able to get any consistency in so far as the gym, but I've been able stay in shape.

This past week I started cycling to work with my own bike (had been renting bike share bikes for the past 2 years even though I had my own). I'm able to get a good 9-10 miles total.

End of the month has been a bit of a disaster though. Work is weighing heavy on my mind and I don't really see an end to the troubles anytime soon.

Plans for next week? I really do still want to try to get to the gym at least 4 times. But if not I'd like to at least be able to cycle to work for the week. Not sure if I would be able to though because I'm pretty sure my bike needs a tune up and I don't have the tools for it. Hoping it'll be a same day sort of thing.

For July I'm planning on taking a week and half off of work. Want to take a small trip to get away from things here. Hoping to be able to hang out with a friend or two as well.

Self Improvement

333 readers
2 users here now

A community which focusses on improving yourself. This can be in many different ways - from improving physical health or appearance, to improving mental health, creating better habits, overcoming addictions, etc.

While material circumstances beyond our control do govern much of our daily lives, people do have agency and choices to make, whether that is as "simple" as disciplining yourself to not doomscroll, to as complex as recreating yourself to have many different hobbies and habits.

This is not a place where all we do is talk about improving "productivity" (in a workplace context) and similar terms and harmful lifestyles like "grindset". Self-improvement here is intended to make you a generally better and happier person, as well as a better communist, and any other roles you may have in your life.

Rules and guidelines:

  1. Posts should be about self-improvement. This is obviously a wide category, and can range from advice, to finding resources, to self-posts about needing to improve in a certain area, or how you have improved, and many other things.

  1. Use content warnings when discussing difficult subjects.

  1. Do not make medical decisions solely because of a discussion you have had with any person here (e.g. whether to take or not take medications; diagnoses; etc.) as we do not vet people. All medical problems should be discussed with a real-life medical professional.

  1. Do not post harmful advice here. If this is seen, then please report it and we shall remove it. If you are unsure about whether it's precisely harmful advice or not but feel uneasy about it, please report it anyway.

  1. Do not insult other users and their lifestyles or their habits (unless they ask, I suppose). This is a place for self-improvement. Critique and discussion about a course of action is encouraged over shit-flinging. Don't talk down to people.
