Descent is why I invert my mouse in all fps games. I started with a joystick plus keyboard, because I was fresh off of F-19, the flight simulator.
Damn, I had never such a specimen in the wild.
Let's observe its behaviour ๐
I had to websearch this so might as well share it here: 6DOF = six degrees of freedom. You can move and rotate in all three dimensions.
Accurate for Descent. I played this game as a kid. At the start I hated it, because unlike Doom you need to aim vertically (Doom has three degrees of freedom: X axis, Y axis, rotation). But eventually it grew on me, it's like going from stale bread to a buttered toast - harder but nicer.
For people who enjoyed Descent, you may enjoy Overload. It was created by some of the original creators and is also a 6DOF shooter.
Overload also supports VR. It's a heck of a lot of fun zooming around, blasting baddies in 3d.
This and Marathon were why I almost didn't make it into University.
Hell yeah, good times!
