Opening notes

The reporter is listed as Vegard Krüger. This video also has the headlines: "Threatens Norway on Russian TV" and "Threatens Norway: Ready to die?". Also, although Dagbladet's video was published on July 30, the TV program it's referring to aired on July 24. Dagbladet was founded in 1869 and has long been one of Norway's most circulated, even most praised, newspapers. It is a tabloid owned by Aller Media and has historically been associated with the Liberal Party and generally "anti-authoritarian", "progressive", or "culturally radical" stances — though I personally mainly associate them with annoying clickbait and "Russia bad" nonsense. That being said, I think it's important to keep track of the current media landscape in Norway, including clickbaity Eurolib BS, because this stuff certainly has a sway over a pretty large share of this country's population.

Translated transcript of video

Buzhinsky: Europe is preparing itself for war, like last century.

Solovyov: We should attack now. There's no reason to wait for them to be ready. We need to destroy them immediately.

Narrator: During a broadcast of the Russian propaganda show Evening with Vladimir Solovyov on the Russian state-owned TV channel Rossiya 1, the show's host Solovyov, and guest military expert Yevgeny Buzhinsky, made threats against Norway.

Buzhinsky: The Norwegians, who we have had a stable relationship with since the War, are now suddenly worried about how we've reestablished the Moscow and Leningrad military districts^[In February, 2024.]. They think we have our sights on Svalbard despite the fact that it is demilitarized. But the Norwegians see it as theirs and are ready to...

Solovyov: To die for it, all of them?^[A forskning.no article reports that "9 out of 10" Norwegians are willing to "fight for their country" — the highest proportion in all of Europe, and sixth highest in the world. At least of the countries surveyed.] Well, there aren't many of them, so it would go quickly. Nobody would even notice that the Norwegians are gone. If the Norwegians were to disappear [from this Earth], people would say, "Were there people here before?"

Narrator: These remarks came after they had discussed the possibility of attacking European countries with nuclear weapons or ballistic missiles.

Buzhinsky: I honestly didn't expect to hear from Maria Zakharova, an official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, that we now see production facilities in countries delivering weapons used to attack our territory, as legitimate targets for our own arsenal.

Narrator: It has been reported earlier by the Dossier Center among others, as well as the independent Russian newspaper "Proekt", and former Rossiya 1 journalist Dmitry Skorobutov, that coordinating meetings are being held between the Kremlin administration and the leaders of the largest media outlets in Russia, among them Rossiya 1. The media during these meetings receive guidelines, so-called "temniki"^[You know, I could just as easily say that Dagbladet's received its own "temniki" to hype Norwegians up for war with Russia — it's not like media manufacturing consent in the interest of the local bourgeoisie is at all unique to Russia. Really, giving the phenomenon a uniquely Russian name, talking about these secret meetings, for that matter using terms like "propaganda show" and "state-owned TV channel", all of this is itself a way to manufacture consent for regime change by the more pro-Western faction of the Russian bourgeoisie, anyways, right?], regarding what to say and discuss.

Narrator: Russia's ambassador to Norway, Nikolai Korchunov, writes to Dagbladet that the Embassy will not comment on debates in Russian media, but will still assert that it was Oslo who ruined the goodwill and relationship between Norway and Russia. He says that the remarks between Solovyov and Buzhinsky are obviously an emotional response to unfriendly, anti-Russian policies.

Korchunov: Unfortunately, the policies of the Norwegian government at this moment constitute a threat against the national security of the Russian Federation.

Narrator: Korchunov believes that Norway's policies are unfriendly and threaten Russia's security, and he criticizes Norway's support for Ukraine, which he believes undermines international security, including Norway's security.
