I hope they picked a field with high demand, like medical something. Otherwise they're gonna be grinding a 9-5 and be $300k in debt forever.

PhDs in many fields, particularly the physical sciences, are funded. Lost wages are real of course, but you can often come out the other side without accumulating any debt.

Don't mind me playing classical music on a lantern that makes a little fake fire out of water vapor and sipping on my herbal tea all night making a little more than a living wage with 2 years of college just to be present and awake in case a person wakes up and chooses violence.
